I WANT TO ASK WHY WE CAN'T CONVERSATE ABOUT SECULAR MUSIC.
A LOT OF THE NEW AND CONTEMPERARY GOSPEL MUSIC NOW IS BASICALLY BASED OFF OF NEO-SOUL,R&B,HIP HOP,ECT.
THER ARE EVAN SAMPLE OF SECULAR SONGS IN GOSPEL MUSIC THAT WE HAVE TO LEARN.

If your heart is toward Gospel music (which is songs about God and his Gospel), then you don't even want to conversate about secular music. It's all about what's really your hearts desire. Personally, I don't want to have anything to do with any songs that put our attention on worldliness! We have to be careful of some of the things that we open ourselves up to because these things carry a spirit behind them that will grab ahold of you . Be Wise and be careful! Just my opinion! Peace.

WELL WITHOUT BEING RUDE AT ANY POINT IN THIS POST.
I WANT TO ASK WHY WE CAN'T CONVERSATE ABOUT SECULAR MUSIC..
The reason...that is the way this site has always been set up. We accept the guidlelines of this site the way the person who pays for and runs it has set. That's it!
Not beign rude, if you want to conversate about secular music, go to a site that allows such conversation.
-
PLAIN AND SIMPLE,IT'S A GOSPEL SITE AND THEY WANT IT KEPT THAT WAY,EITHER RESPECT IT OR FIND ANOTHER SITE TO GO TO,NO NEED TO CALL THEM BIG?????

I ALWAYS TYPE WITH BIG LETTERS MY FRIEND,EVERY POST I HAVE DONE WAS DONE WITH BIG LETTERS,OK......................LIL GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
You guys can stop right there.
There's no need to start flaming each other.
Both of you are PARTIALLY correct....
CAPS, in netiquette, means yelling. It doesn't matter if you ALWAYS type in caps or not. It will always be interpreted as yelling, so it's usually rude to do so.

I WAS'NT SERIOUSLY GOIN BACK IN FORTH WITH HIM!!!!!!!!!! RELAX,YOU GUYS ON THIS SITE ARE ON EDGE!!!!!!!!! GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH!!!!!!!!!!!!! BAN ME PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Like I said before, in another post, when you chat or post on the net, it's easy to lose your intended meaning. That's why some netiquette rules have evolved. If you choose to ignore them then you're bound to run into some problems....If your joking, it's always good to use smileys or chat lingo that would suggest you're joking. If not, some moderator (and I'm not just talking about this site) may take your post the wrong way. In other places, they'd say more than what I did.
Lastly, I know your initial post was in defense of this site and its moderators--at least it seemed as such--so I would just like to say thanks for the support. This isn't really a glamourous job, and we're not getting paid for it. We're all volunteers.

not to be rude sister-t but when u say 4 shizzal there is only one person who comes to mind- Snoop Dogg and if he isnt seccular than i dont know who is.

Actually I was imitating the type of talk that is used on this drummers forum. It was lighthearted satirical humor. GEEEEZ!! Give me a break!!
You weren't being rude, you just seem nit-picking. to me :!: (That's my opinion) Kind of reminded me of the actions the Pharisees & Scribes were so quick to take.

OOOPS. Big typo.
I meant to say "I WASN'T."
I'm a big one too I was just representing.
Moedrums I love you bro, keep it real and God Bless brotha!

i also have a question
regarding professional musicians/drummers- ie- dave weckl, dennis chambers, tony royster, steve gadd, and tons of other drummers who we should learn from: are we allowed to talk about them, their techniques, practices, etc.?
thanks
freddy
-
That is not so easy to answer. I suppose it is ok to get musicianship skills from secular musicians. It would be safe to assume that just about all instructional dvd's and video's out there are secular. It is however what you do with the knowledge you gain. Me, myself, I will only use my tallent for the kingdom. I would never be part of a secular band.
-
so just to be clear, we can talk about instruction things played etc. from those guys.
i just don't want to get in trouble with ya'll if i bring something/someone up in the future :?

I think you guys are missing the point. We are not a site with a list of rules that have subpoints to those rules.
The problem came when chords for Alicia Keys has been frequently requested and links to Mary J. Blige Videos and Usher videos have been posted. Also, the annoucnements to go out and buy Mint Condition, Usher & other secular artist. We just don't advocate that on this site. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY because this is a CHRISTIAN, GOSPEL site.
It is not the music of the secular artist that we have a problem with, it is the lyrics to some of their songs, the way they suggestively perfom on stage and in their videos, and the lifestyle of sex, drugs, & greed that some of the artist carelessly flaunt.
As a Christian site, we MUST take a stand and abstain from the appearance of evil. If it doesn't represent God, it does not have our support.
-
Amen SisterT,
Greatly explained!
-
AMEN Sister T

Sister T
- i am not trying to be smart challenge you all or anything like that, i just want to make sure i am within the boundries being reiterated/reset.
i do totally understand the need to cut out the things/posts/artists you are talking about
but i just want to know:
is that a clear no for the instructional stuff from instructional type prof. drummers? they don't really represent God- and i know you could say there is my answer right there- however they do provide opportunity for growth through exposure and instruction. and within the Gospel community, for drummers there really isn't too much to learn from. we could probably run out of recources in a days time. so if we are cutting that stuff out too, i believe we will be severely choking the possible learning on the forum.
i mean look at the posts sabian knight writes- 90% of the time it is some kind of knowledge from or about books or videos that he recommends or has seen. etc. and there are few to none who haven't gotten better from what he has given to this forum.
again i am not trying to be disrespectful or anything, i just wanted to make a case for certain recources, and get a clear yes or no on those recources.

Again, you are missing the point!
As Kadman said, all instructional material is not Gospel. For instance, I own a lot of material that I haven't taken the time to find out if the author is Christian, however, the content of the material is educational and not offensive. No one is bumpin' & grinding in the background while trying to teach me what a Cm7 chord is. (Okay, maybe that's a bit out in leftfeild  ) There are some good learning material out there that does not carry the tag "I represent God". We are not saying that you cannot learn music from them and discuss those videos here....as long as the are clean. We are saying the ones that blatanly misrepresent Holiness as a lifestyle...No Way!!
All we can do is determine as we go along if something is of good quaility or not. If your topic is suddenly gone, you know why. We don't come down hard on folks for making mistakes.
-
thanks a lot, i appreciate the time. i did believe that is what you were saying i just wanted to be sure.
and uh..........
No one is bumpin' & grinding in the background while trying to teach me what a Cm7 chord is.
that is seriously funny

8O Now I'm almost afraid to ask my question...I've never brought her up in a forum before, but what about Kelly Price? From what I've heard of her, I can't really say whether her music is "secular" or "other". She has several songs about God or "faith" or life, but none of them have any offensive words in them. I've taken the time to actually read her lyrics instead of just listen to the songs (easiest way to spot something negative) and have found no fault in her music.
I must say this; I have not heard some of her past music (7+ yrs ago), so I may be mistaken. She kind of reminds me of a country singer (no offense to country) because of her tendancy to sing about losing out on love, or being proposed to, or being cheated on/lied to. She also has songs about people making mistakes, giving them incouragement to move on and try again, not to give up.
There is a re-make she did of some song ( I think it's "Slept the Night Away") which is the only song I have found some fault in...but in the lyrics, she is confessing of a sin, not lavishing in it. So, my question is, artists like her, are they allowed to be discussed (even if it is solely gospel songs they've performed)? Thank you.
Ps. Sorry so long.

is conversate really a word?? 8)

is conversate really a word?? 8)
THANK YOU!! "Conversate" is NOT a word. The word is CONVERSE. I actually wanted to start a post about this very thing, but I thought I'd be bombarded by by folks insisting that "conversate" is a word!
**"So, LadyWiz, how do you really feel about this??**
-
my wife is a word freak and absaolutely HATES  when people say that.
i mean whe'll use slang whenever it is ok, but that one gets to her because some truly believe it is a word. so i feel you pain
-
I see the recent postizations concerning the correctivity of the word "conversate". My brothers and sisthers we must continue to enhancimate our vocabulatories through good and helpfully venues, or venuettes, if you will. The word "conversate" is a state of mind that perpituates the subconscioable epitaths of one's being. It is that simple...so, let us continue to conversate on other matters in the same spirit, or spiritette, if you will.

We are not going to get into a list of who you can or cannot CONVERSATE /CONVERSE (choose your preference  ) about. Just use good judgment.
As I stated "All we can do is determine as we go along if something is of good quaility or not. If your topic is suddenly gone, you know why. We don't come down hard on folks for making mistakes."
If for some reason your topic is deleted, don't take it personally. We delete threads in the best interest of the site, not as a personal attack against people.

This is for our site developer (4his) and our moderators...
It seems that the pot got a little heated there for a sec but all is well now.
I just have a question and then a comment:
First of all let me start by saying I respect all of you Sister T, 4Hisglory and B3(my brotha up in Korea) and I have leaned on you all for advice on different occasions.
I have to ask us to rethink our philosophy on who we allow to say what. I feel you Sister T on posting video clips and all but simply asking the question about Mint Condition or another secular group doesn't warrant someone being banned from the site but it only shows us where they are spiritually. We know people by their fruit and sometimes miss and opportunity to fulfill the great commission by helping mature these brother and sisters. I don't have to tell you all that we should be making disciples which speaks to maturity through a personal relationship with Jesus. If we don't teach these folk, they'll just ask the wrong folk the same question that we tried to ask.
Pardon me but I want the dirtiest, filthiest, grimiest cats around me because I want to show them that the blood of Jesus is more powerful than any demonic force out there. I hate to say it but we sound Scared as if we're going to be contaminated. Some one even said that it'll get into our spirit. WOW! Well I would question my faith if I would turn my back on Jesus that easily. All he has done for us. I'm in Japan and when people get save over here, they get saved for real because they lose everything, families isolate them because the abandon the tradtions of their culture. In Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia they are killing Christians for believing in Jesus. The Western Church no doubt loves God but doesn't have a revelation of Jesus yet. Jesus came to bring what the greek calls "sozo" often used inter-changably with healing, saving, completion etc. Jesus would let these cats hang out and be themselve but begin to show them the Kingdom. What are we doing? We're becoming a exclusive club only permitable to the already healed, already cleaned up, already delivered, already saved. We have Christian Schools, Christian Day Cares, Christian Credit Unions, Christian Universities, Christian this, Christian that... That's cool but everything belongs to us why limit ourselves. We give the world the impression that we want to be isolated. Why not teacher our kids and teenagers to live holy so we can turn our public schools into Christian schools. Why not live holy and develop some fruit of the spirit so we can become CEOs of fortune five hundred companies and turn them in to Christian places.
My bad yall...there I go again...preaching what God has given me to everyone else. If you want to hear more we can PM. I don't expect anyone to understand what I'm saying...why? because I remember when we considered our parents generation to be religios and full of tradition. But you know what, one day, to our kids, we will be religious and full of tradition and I see it happening now. That Generation of believers 30 to 40, news flash, we're becoming our parents!

Whoooaaa....why did you draw such a conclusion???!!!! No one (expect YOU) has said anything about banning members. 8O We do not BAN members for posting secular material. We simply delete the topic and maybe send that person a pm asking them not to do it again.
The rest of your comments (sermon  ) are moot, for your message was based on a serious error. Not only did you draw the wrong conclusion, you sort of came down on us (yeah, you sprinkled it with love  ) based on your BAD assumptions. Bottom line, you gave us a "mind whoppin' " for nuthin'......That's an awful way to treat people.
-
I apologize to my favorite sista on LGM...no disrespect serioulsy...I respect you so I'm gonna chill with that. But I know you got to to be be feeling me with what we are doing as believers.
I have to repent the most because I had to check myself because one of my young disciples visits this site often because I recommended it to him. He's my drummer and he's strong in faith however, he submitted the poll about secular music and I had to ask myself whether I'm teaching him religion or relationship. Also had to question whether I am reinforcing the important of what and who Jesus is.
(I'm not yelling) I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE TO ANYONE NAMELY SISTER T WHO IS DEEPLY RESPECTED IN ALL OF LGM.
Again my intent is to send a message to the body of Christ to not bag on these artist, businessmen, educators and who ever else is out there rubbing elbows and getting in a position to minister to these cats in the secular industry.
I will say to those that's mixing it up on stage with other secular artist...I hope you have received the baptism in and of the HolySpirit, Know the word, stay accountable to your pastor or an elder and keep a believer with you because flesh works.
To me Moderators: Love yall...no disrespect...got a lot on my chest (is that spelled right) Anyway...I believe God is not necessarilly looking for me to get it right the first but he's looking for maturity which the biblical definition of perfect.
AGAIN, SISTA T...LOVE YOU, YOU ARE ALWAYS THERE FOR US...
Fingaz

I apologize to my favorite sista on LGM...
Shucks...I'm the favorite sista...you are so sweet  , you know I must accept your apology. I'm even placing your walking papers back in the file cabinet. LOL!
Seriously, no harm. But let me say this...it is so important that we read and get clear understanding and not draw conclusions based on emotions (not saying that you were emotional). In another thread, I was called unintelligent because of a statement I made which the accuser proved to be true. Nothing I said was insulting, but because of emotions and the nature of the topic, the accuser does not see clearly. That is what happens when we are passionate about certain topics....we don't see clearly and we often do not read the entire post, therefore we draw wrong conclusions. The accuser disrespected me, however, no actions will be taken. No need to ban for something like that.
I have been with this site since the beginning, and I have only seen less than five people banned. Those banned were out of control---constantly posting profanity. That's about the only thing that will get you the boot. We must draw the line somewhere.
Much love to you....
-
bottom line is this is a private site owned by whomever foots the monthly bills. just follow his/her rules and leave it at that!
if you have even small a amount of doubt concerning the appropriateness of material you're about to post, play it safe and don't post! simple :!:
-
Wow....and us as followers of Christ wonder why we dont reach the lost.....look at all the bickering that we allow to happen in our midst.
Now I do understand that there are many different beliefs on this site and not everyone can see eye to eye...but one saying I have always loved is this:
If I can't bitterly disagree with a brother or sister and still Love them and say God Bless them, then something is wrong with my experience.
How true that is...I understand that we can come to a disagreement..but the way we compose ourselves should be as Christians. We all claim to be followers of Christ...shouldnt our actions also show that testimony?
I just would like to see us responding to each other in more of a Christian manner. If someone posts something that you do not agree with, and you have nothing positive to say, then either ignore it and move on, or PM them and discuss it there. But for secular people to see the arguments that occur on this board, is definitely discouraging....
If we are a family here, we should follow the family rules....
We can fight in the backyard, (PM or email)
but in the front yard, we defend each other (Any post on here)
I hope this comes across correctly.
I am not saying that we cant disagree, but lets try to do that in a Christian manner...
God Bless.
-
Nice post E-R,
Wow where have I been?? :) I think that peopel were completely missing the point from the very beginning. I dont normally like to call names but people like SabianKnight, JFunky, etc... has made reference to secular type things but they do it in a way fto is instructional :)
-
I love everybody!
-
Thanks for accepting...
E-R put it right and my intention is to come off as not perfect the the world's stand but mature by the bible standard. I repented and asked my sister for forgiveness. That's the word and what it tells me to do...
Yall know my passion now so no need to guess what I about...SOULS!
My heart is sort of aching right now because of people are dying in sin everyday. Every sould that comes to LGM is precious to the Lord and I hope LGM is making room for non-believers to come in and see how we do it.
E-R, It's like being married brotha...My wife and I disagree sometimes but at the end one of us has to get out of our flesh and display some Godly character and fruit of the Spirirt.
Sista...Like I a said you have proven yourself the beautiful, annointed Diva (in a good way), that you've labeled as...A breath of fresh air for LGM...Thanks and I be in touch. Pray for JUDAH FIRST as we take it to the streets in 2006!
-
I love everybody!
hahahaa :D

Wait a second. I can agree on not playing clips of these secular performers but, what about the musicians who play for them. Most of these musicians are christian drummers who among other things play secular. Are these guys not gospel drummers? Some guys are saved and truly love the lord but, play with secular artists. I can not say, "hey that drummer is going to hell because he is doing a hit with Alicia keys." Do you know what amazes me? The fact that we are supposed to be striving to be Christ like but, we turn our backs on people at the drop of a hat or a beat for that matter. This is what amazes me. These drummers are great drummers who still attend church, pray, study and try to follow Christ. Please! Let's stop turning our backs on people and start showing kindness. Kindness is one of the greatest evangelical tools ever.
-
I think you are completely missing the point. No one isnt saying that there arent great drummers out there that play secular, and still Love the Lord. But when they come to church, they do not play any secular music
