key is actually d-minor I think :)
Very nice post

Yeah, the key is D minor. It don't even really go to F nowhere in the song. The key signature would be the same though if u saw it in a music book. Anyways, enough of theory mode, great job Val. Keep up the good
work.

Thanks, I'm still trying to learn how to apply theory to what i'm hearing.

FYI the two tip offs for me were, the C# when playing the A major chord and the D minor chord at the beginning :)

LOL....I think i'm beginning to see the light . By the way, I'm working on another song to post. I'm gonna see if I can get the key right this time 8O Thank you all for your help and encouragement. It's really helping me improve my music...especially my ear. Sometimes I can't wait to put what I hear to some keys.

Hi Val215,
I could easily see how it could be confused for being played in the Key of F because F is the relative Major when you are playing in D minor. Meaning you can play your F major scale over the D minor and it would be perfectly o.k. I'm sure T-Block will remember this from studying theory......
God Bless you,

Right. "F" is used as a passing note. However, I literally view it as in the key of F, playing to the 6 instead of the 1. It sounds like semantics but for me it really makes a difference (bass player). If I view this in my mind as a "minor" key, I'd have to wipe the slate clean and come up with a new pattern called "minor," (more stuff to remember for the purpose of remembering the exact same notes).
Somewhere along the way I thought, "Wait. I can keep my major and play into it from the 6th position?" From that moment on, I play EVERYTHING using the major scale sometimes with slight alterations, cutting my weight in half. But I don't know if that mental view will help a piano player see things easier.

It's perfectly fine to think in the Key of F as u playing this song, but be careful not to convince yourself or anybody else you in the key of F, cuz that would be wrong. The only way it can truly be in F is if the chords are arranged for F to be 1.

Yep. That's why I thought that it won't work too well for a piano player. Being a bass player, I probably shouldn't be here.
