Any Producers Here???  How did you get started???

..I HAVE BEEN PRODUCING FOR OVER 20 YEARS!

STARTED OUT WITH WRITING MUSIC FOR PEOPLE...THEN THE WORD GETS AROUND AND SMALL RECORD COMPANIES CALL YOU....YOU PUTZ AROUND WITH THEM AND NETWORK...THEN YOU GET THE BIG PHONE CALL!!!.....(THATS THE BIG NAME WHO WONT PAY YOU!)

THE WORD GETS AROUND THAT YOU WORKED WITH THIS PERSON AND THAT...THEN SUDDENLY EVERY ONE WANTS TO WORK WITH YOU....YOU GET PAID BIGGER BUCKS....

I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED EQUIPTMENT BECAUSE I AM A WRITTER...SO THE TECHNOLOGY IS EMBEDDED IN ME....

I LEARNED ORCHESTRATION IN H.S. AND COLLEGE SO I KNOW HOW TO MAKE HEAD BOPPING MUSIC AND MUSIC THAT DOESNT MAKE YOUR HEAD BOP AT ALL!

NOW I ONLY DO LARGE JOBS FOR PRIVATE COMPANIES OR FOLKS WITH  A LOT OF MONEY....

SO I DONT WORK A LOT...BUT WHEN I DO...I GETS PAID!

I'm also a producer &  engineer.  I work in television for 10 years now, so I know I have an ear for things, but I'm just looking for artists/singers/musicians that need help as far as putting their ideas on a CD to enjoy.  As long as the engineering aspect is great, you can cut corners in the recording aspect.  I have a project now that people believe was professionally done.

Started with a computer, Acid 2.0, a soundblaster live platinum sound card, a marshall MXL mic, and a yamaha PSR 540 Keboard.  Now I work with a Roland phantom x7, mpc 2000, TC Helicon Voiceworks, Roland VS 2480, and my computer running Sonar producer 4.  

I started in music being a DJ when I was 16.  I started producing and engineering when I was 19.  I fell in love with it.  Where you start is dependant upon basically three things to me.
1.  Your budget.
2.  Your passion for music.
3.  How far do you want to take it.

Starting out for a hobbyist, I would go for a old Korg D12.  I still have one.  Decent quality and if you can find one, cheap price.

Good advice. I started out as a session player and leaned over peoples shoulders instead of flirting with the receptionist, watchin videos in the lounge, or ordering expesive takeout food on the artists budget.
