Title: why.....Why....WHY!!
Post by: 4hisglory on February 02, 2006, 09:47:25 AM
Why does a regular four string guitar have a E, A D and G string???  Am I the only one that thinks it whould be B, E, A and D??

Its frustrating listening to a CD and you know they are playing a looowww Db or Db and you don't have that on your bass......uuuggghhh.....sorry, just venting. :)

I feel ya.  I thought the same thang... I am going to look into a 5 string as soon as I get back from spending my money on this year's family Vacation...Eb on the 3rd string ain't doing it for me.

I'm ok with it.  I kinda find it challenging to get a different fingering.  You can always purchase that 5 string.  Or change the tuning.  But you're right.  Alot of gospel uses that low B string.

I feel you dj groovin'.  I know alot of folks make due with the 4 string.  It just seems like as I watch my friend, D's hand on the keyboard... as he plays the keys, he is doing alot of equivelant to the B string.

I also noticed that the keys start at C, and the First Fret of the B string is C... that would help me out alot when I am learning from him on the keys.

But then again, it could just me trying to get ahead by being lazy... time will tell..

Nothing wrong with tuning a 4-string BEAD.

B3 was right for once.  LOL  So you can buy more!  If you ain't rocking at least five these days then most gospel music will be hard for you play.

See yall start talking BassOff and all kinds of critters start popping up:

We haven't heard from six in a grip, but it's cool.

B3 been on vacation forever.  That's cause I sent him into retirement after the last BassOff

Fingaz been in the studio, playing, writing, composing, producing busy times.  I'm also have been accepted to attend summer basslines progam at Berklee School of Music (so geeked about that).  Not that I think that there is a huge selection process, I'm just excited first to be coming back to the states, second because I get to mix it up with the best in the business.

whats up now Bradleymoorer and Spiritfingers. i have been here checkin in all along but it got  kinda slow after the last member participation clinic(bassoff). It is good to hear that you will be going to Berklee Spiritfingers, congrats!!.  nothing new on this end except i got a new rig. a musicman audiophile head and 212 cabinet. sounds pretty decent.

i posted some shout band files in the horn section of this site. the sousaphone players in these bands are really tight man. i picked up a few pointers from the cats.

peace.

Spiritfingers, did you say you were retiring from the bass a few months ago??  Or maybe that was someone else.
Title: Rub it in too!

O.k.   I knew someone was going to bring this up!  It's cool though...

4Hisglory...Try not to beat me up too bad.

Yeah at one point a few months ago I was done with playing bass because ppl wanted me to sing and preach and teach.  You have to know what you're called to do.  I believe that we all should have something to say once we step from behind our instruments.  I also believe that five fold ministry is not something you take lightly and if you and your wife or husband aren't committed to seeing the work through, then you shouldn't do it.  It's a marriage, a covenant between you and the ppl you chose to Pastor.  I've had the opportunity to go that way but I believe the body of Christ is best service with me where I am.

Publicity stunt.... Who do you think I am, Tonex? 8O Just kidding to all the Tonex fans out there.  Just making light of how we take things overboard.  No seriously I appreciate all the love I get from the LGM family.  Can't believe I'm still like "church folks" on the profile there, should be more light "Royalty"  but it's cool though

If I can help I will be glad to:

Regarding Low Notes, my everyday bass is a 5-stringer. At NAMM 06, I gotta chance to play some 7-stringers (Nordstrand)> I liked em a lot. They were comfortable and not too heavy.

On a lot of gospel recordings, the bass seems to go lower than B. I'm thinking about getting a 7-string tuned F#-C. Maybe the best of all worlds.
