Do any of u guys tune or string up your 5 string basses,
B E A D G
?
I've figured that this is what most gospel musicians do to make it sound so DEEP!
-
I don't understand your question, maybe someone else will.
DId you mean to flat those tunings.
-
You don't have your bass tuned-up to E-A-D-G-C, do you? If so, I hope you have the correct strings on there.

Isn't this the 'standard' tuning for a 5 String??
-
That's that standard tuning for a 5.
-
 It is? Well, only an American would know the true tuning. Over hear in the UK, I keep hearing stuff about 5-string basses having a high B instead of a low B.
I think I'll do it your way.
-
i was starting to worry about you and this thread. i'm just messing with you.
glad you explained your position

Well there are a few blokes who tune thier 5's E-A-D-G-C, but low B tuning is way more common.

I'm considering EADGC for my next 5 string.

B-E-A-D-G is the common tune with the standard strings the bass come with, but you can also tune it E-A-D-G-C but you have to get a lighter string to support the high C's intonation.

At the risk of sounding like a jerk......
My 5 strings are tuned BEADG If I need a high C (and sometimes even when I don't) I pickup one of my 6 string basses, strung BEADGC.
Six string basses are an option.
Peace,
James

The Nut on the bass is set fo GDAEB so you will have some play on your strings and usually (ugly ) ringing to your open notes. IA new nut will be required.
LOL When I got my first 5 string back 3 years ago or so I thought the tuning was CGDAE and tried tuning it too that.. caboink
Dad take me to the music store I need to buy new strings for my new bass LOL!!!

Like it has already been said the standard tuning is with the B at the bottom and the G at the top but now days a lot of guys are flatting the tunnong set up. in other words Bb is the low and Gb is the high string. But I went to s service with a guest choir and the bass player who was an animal had a seven string set up and he tuned his bottom to F# and his high string was the C so his set up was F# B E A D G C it must have been custom made but he made that thing sing and when he dropped the F# open it shook your spine loose. Take care and Be Blessed

I thought this was standard tuning for a 7 and then an 8 adds a high F
