Title: Gotta Love Those Locrians: 2-5 or 5-1 run with F# Locrian & G Locrian
Post by: B3Wannabe on February 22, 2006, 10:01:17 AM
While practicing the other day, I came up with these two runs for a 2-5 or 5-1 turnaround...

Key G or D:

Here are the two runs and the fingerings:

F#GABCDEGoing up
2123123
DCBAAbGoing down
21432
GAbBbCDbEbFG - Going up
12312345

The whole progression looks like:

LH \ RH

. \ F#
A-E-G-B \ G, A, B, C, D, E, D, C, B, A, Ab, G
D-F#-A-C \ Ab-Bb-C-Db-Eb-F-G

This turnaround can resolve well to a Imaj7...but wait there's more...  ;) ;)

Here's a neat trick! You can break up that Imaj7 (G-B-D-F#) and play ANY ONE of the notes as the bass!  :o

These are some resolution chords:

1. G-D-G \ B-D-F#-B
2. B-Eb \ A-D-G
3. D-F#-C \ F#-B-E
4. F#-Bb \ E-A-C

...If you pause at the five longer, you can add this run to where you left off....

F#, E, D, C, B, A, G, F#, E (down)
D, E, F#, G, A, B, C, D (up) ... This is the D Mixolydian scale.

 ;) ;D

Can you please try to make an audio of this B3..
I don't think I'll play it correctly if I don't know what you intended it to sound like :-\

Thats why I dont like chord charts.

I think chord charts are different in that they only act as a guide as to which chord will provide a flow in a progression you choose to use in any given scale..
What progression you want to use is up to you, but the chord type given in the chart works most often than not.

A chord chart is no different to this:

Major scale= I-ii-iii-IV-Vdom-vi-vii dim

If you say you like this guide, then in effect, you are saying you like chord charts..or the moment you tell someone that a 2 chord is a minor, then effectively you are drawing out a chord chart for them ;D

However, what B3 has given out is diff in that it's a specific example & time signatures are involved as well..
I hope you get my last statement...

Sorry mate, I had to play the devil's advocate there  ;D
