What heads do you have on that snare?

#1- i must admit that i am impressed with how that snare sounded- even though it is a 14"
#2-
lol. You got some nice hands and all but that was a simple double stroke accent on the snare on that byron cage song.
just because you understand something, can do something, or can figure something out doesn't mean it's not HOT, or that is is just "alright".
#3 dway you are making me anxious about putting up my clips, the clips i put up before were not even close to how well i play, for some reason you make me excited about putting some better stuff up here.- hope that makes sense :P
-
I know exactly what you mean freddy no matter how hard we try it just seems like i cant play my best when it being recorded for some strange reason but the clip that I heard of yours was hot!!!!! So I think it just us being never saticfied with our playing and that is a good thing cause we will never stop learning and getting better.
-
Dway.......<sigh>....<shakes head>......That was phatt!!!! You gotta post more stuff, man! Yell back!
-
man.....i love your style, chops, fills everything, and its so clean!! what kit is it? i looks like pearl sumthing
-
Bruh straight up dont take it to heart. You sound like you are pretty hot and I can agree that your licks were pretty are pretty darn clean, But man I wasnt really fellin ya bruh. Alot of the licks you did were so repetitive and I didnt see a variety of different feels that made the song come alive. Pretty nice stuff though I just thought you could show more of a vocabulary in your playing. Keep up the good luck though.....Much Love!!!

He seems to have a wealth of knowledge about music & just life in general.
I have two degree's in music ... but, I'm kind of hardcore. I prefer for guys to learn on their own. They'll respect the craft more, and learn more, as opposed to if everything is just given to them. That's the way it was for me.
If I asked a professor, 'What key is that in?" He'll say, "Find out yourself.."
Harsh. However, it benefited me more in the long run.
-
I Know sab from down here in central Fl, and yes he fits the definition of professional very well. He has degrees in music and everything and his knowledge about drumming and the industry is great. I know he is an Instructer and Tech but I not sure about any albums he has done, But he Is very professional in what he does. Keep up the good work bruh!!!
Da' Drumma
P.S. Sabe,J-Kay,J-funky,Sugabear we got to get the Central Fl, shed going for sure!!!!!

Its a thin 4 ply Mahogany shell. they have a 5.5 inch depth as well, but I love the 6.5. Very very versatile. Good Luck finding one, Thanks to the Pearl Reference Series, they are on a 6-8 month backorder. No one has them in stock. Best bet is ebay. Thats where I got mine. I couldnt wait 6 months!!!!
God Bless.

very good catdaddy.....what rudiments are you doing to build on your hand speed?

I understand, no harm done.
I am just pro-minded, doc. I was blessed to start out t a peforming arts schools with a band director that cared. My love and recently realized purpose in music and teaching has just been on slow cook in the crock pot. My degree iis actually in art but I have been blessed to be around real musicians and students of the craft. Education has always been a must because knowledge is power. These days I feel that I am a better teacher than player (simply because of my high aspirations to be technical player with meaning and purpose always serving the music).
I like to and try to lift those around me... Those that I am playing with... Any that are in earshot. I have not done any tours or anything. Right now, God has me teaching. Getting prepared. I have baggage of self-doubt to get rid of being my own worst critic and a control freak. As I teach I learn without ego. Everything else is waiting for me to get there... It's already written.
I appreciate the good vibes from all of you. (enuff about me...)
dway, You you have got the goods man! I would love to see you using that left foot more though. Gimme' some hihat doc (...that is something that I working on in my playing) ! Your timing, hands, ears/cymbal choices, snare tuning are all on. The hihat foot is the lost art in the urban rumset player bring it back.
-
Good looking out Sabe I am gone work on that this week . I really appriciate It cause I really want to become better at what I do. Man anymore advice you have man please let it rip because I can receive advice from people that give it looking straight at you and not down on you if you know what I mean.
Stay positive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a lost art ! Meaning Negativity is everywhere.
Thanks again!
-
Doc that is some hot playin!!!!!!!!!! U keep that up and u could go pro for real.

E-R and Dway,
Try the Hazy 500 Glass on the snare side. It is for deep drums and is suppsosed to give a darker dry sound. I think you guys might like it, especially E-R. Mahagony snares have a tendency to have a high pitch bite that is sometimes annoying... (right E-R and anyone with an Omar Hakim...).
Dway I would like to here a clip of that with your tuning. Just me being a madd scientist and I don't have a mahogany to try it on. (sorry about the typos)

you Got it sabe maybe Tuesday!

Its funny you mention that head... I was really wondering how that would do on mine. Now, I am gonna have to go buy it! Now after hearing Dways clip, I decided to crank my snare up abit. I had it at 4-5 batter and 5-6 snare side. Now its at 6 batter and 9 snare side. I have a Hazy 300 bottom and I had a Genera HD Dry batter side. Now hearing dways clip, I liked the sound a 1 ply made, but it was a little too bright for me, not much just a little, which is because of the Remo heads. So, I found a Genera Dry laying around, and I made the switch!... what a difference. This snare DOES NOT like 2 ply heads, It feels great! Also, when I changed the heads, I noticed that my snare bed is really wide, and according to the puresound clips you sent me, It will react better with wider snares, So I took off the 16 strand Pure sounds and went back to the 20 strand Pearl Masters...It cut the sympathy vibrations by about 90%! So, I may get a 30 count or 42 count snare wire here in the future.
I just love the way my snare sounds now, but I could definitely add some dark deep warmth to it. and I think that Glass will be it!
God Bless.

I warned you about the HD Dry being too much. A regular G2 Coated or a single-ply Genera coated (Which I am using on my Dave Weckl and LOVING IT! -- once the head stretches it sounds great.... dark and throaty!)

I'm sorry Sabe. NO but seriously. I thought you had suggested it. I am happy with the Genera dry for now. Genera will be the next.
