Title: Preventive Maintenance?!?!?!
Post by: 3rd-Day on February 25, 2006, 02:20:41 PM
What is the proper way to clean cymbals, heads, hardware and shells. Since you guys are drumologist im hoping you can help me and the kids (whom I brought the set for) to keep the Rydeen looking and sounding presentable.  ;)

The Rydeen ihas a wrap on it so just wipe it down with a dust cloth or swiffer. The cymbals that come with the Rhydeen are brass. Don't worry about cleaing them unless you see greasy finger prints on the. Food grease is what eats through the finish. A spray on cleaner like Kickin' Brass or Groove Juice will work on those low end cymbals.

If you have Sabian high-end or Ziljizn high-end cymbals then either don't clean them at all or use the respective company's spray on cleaner on a weekly basis.

No I am not saying that (don't clean them at alll). I am saying that with professional cymbals like the ones you have dirt can enhance the sound and some folk choos not to clean them and it doesn't hurt the sound. Not cleaning them will warm the sound.

If you like shiny cymbals clean them with Sabian spray every week as needed. Do not spray the logo unless you want it to rub off because it will. Clothe diapers work well for cymbal cleaning. They are soft, thick, washable and reusable.

I use Buckaroo cymbal cleaner on my Sabians. It is strong and time consuming because you have to do it in small sections and clean away all residue before it dries. I have 9 cymbals (including the hats) currently and it takes about 30 min per cymbal when I clean them.

*** Warning moister in the air will turn your cymbals. This moisture could come from humidity or your air condition. Use DampRid in the room that you keep the drums set up to pull the moisture out of the air. You can get it at Wal-Mart for like $6 and it lasts about a month in real humid areas like Florida. you will be surprised how much water it will pull out of the air.

Spit! Most cymbal companies sell cleaners for their cymbals. Dont just use any old cleaners on your cymbals do the research ! Drums I use any top of the line guitar polish and buffer (since I am a bass player also)

I have never cleaned my cymbals, not because of sound issues, but because I didnt want to rub the logos off!!  :-\ :'( :-[ Dont know how I should feel about that? I will say this, my cymbals definitely dont sound bad! I love their tone and they still look great! So I will stick to no cleaning.

God Bless.

Exactly.  Don't mess around and jack up your cymbals man.
