Title: SCALES IN MUSIC
Post by: JoeMusician on March 17, 2006, 08:15:15 AM
I know this might be a dumb question, but my frustration compelled me to ask it. what else can one do with scales besides Improvising ? I've been learning tons of scales and modes, but i really don't know what to do with them? I know about 32 scales and modes in the key of C alone.

The modes sound Nice, especially the Lydian Augmented...the Super Locrian etc.... But I need to put them in great use, but don't really know how to. Can I use them to build Chords? What about Passing Chords? Would someone please help? I'd greatly appreciate your help. Please

Scales are the foundation to all music, melodies, runs and riffs all come from them.

Joe if you know all those scakes it is definitely time to put the m to use

You can plat lydian harmont myxoydian harmongy locrian harmony you name it

for example I started out playing aoelean harmony and didnt realize it by starting my songs on A and playing all white notes

later on I dixcovered the key of C

later on a realized that if you played a song in C you could also start on A minor and harmonize the song as if it was in A even though you started in C

Since you know your modes and scales try harmonizing every scale tone to build chords over them

skiping a scale degree in between you can find your seventh chords and altered ninths and what not.

lets say you were playing in the key of C you could start you song on G and play lydian harmony of course you have to work it out what your strating notes are but scales are melted chords and chords are frozen scales

so begin to explore the harmonies your scales are providing you will be a beast
