Title: " Lord I Lift Your Name On High"
Post by: artistic27 on April 04, 2006, 08:37:22 PM
Hello,
I am new to this and I have been checking out some really good input on different subjects.  I have been playing by ear now for 3 years, and now learning to play by reading notes.  I know the scales on the fret board pretty well, but now I am reading the notes on the scale.  I was wondering if anyone knows the bassline to "Lord I Lift Your Name On High" song?  Or, can someone send me the same track to add a bassline to?

Both of you fellaz do it differently than me, I do mines in the key of D for now, its subject to change at a moments notice though...  ;)

But I am definately gonna be investigating the way some more seasoned bassist hold it down... Thanks fellaz.

80% of the music we play (my P&W team) play of done from a White artist (no offence to no one I'm half that  ;D)
So whom ever's version we play are well you get the picture. I enjoy this version. When the keys go off in her own world and I'm drilling that bass part hard man it gets the congragation out their seats and dancing.

Our Praise Team too, Mike Gee.  Our keyboardist, and Lead Musician, is very gifted and usually brings a jazz influence to most of the music.  But at the foundation we listen to the white artists for inspiration.  We went through one period, that I thought Clint Brown must have 9000 songs, it seemed like that was all we did.  Now we are covering alot of the Israel & Martha Munizzi's stuff, well they usually start out there songs, but by the time rehearsal or sunday worship service is at its height, new songs a constantly being birthed.

I guess you all beat me to it I wanted to post a midi clip of Lord I Lift Your Name on High. Then get you all to play a bassline to it. This is the type of stuff that can be complicated for a new bass player. When you have good keyboard players the bass player doesnt have to do much. When you have beginner keyboard players sometimes the music can sound dry if the bass player cant groove well. Especially on moderate tempo and slow songs. I was trying to come up with a full bassline myself last night.

Believe it or not, I actually thought that Clint Brown was black the first time that I heard him.  I first heard the Judah CD.  I was younger then and was ignorant that other races made great music as well.  I didn't come to that understanding until I went to college and started taking theory classes and my eyes and ears were opened up to other styles of music.  Now I'll listen to anyone.  Has anyone heard Rod Wilbourn and the West Tennessee Mass Choir.

We do a lot of Martha Munizzi and Clint Brown. Our current MOM (been in place for 6 months same as me) most of what we do are them. There music is tough for young bass players (me, 31 months) I try and I can't get what they do so I just say forget it and play off the chord symbols. It comes out sounding very well.

Yes indeed Clint is nice...  Because of WHo you are...was my anthem for a long time.
The music is a bit complicated... I look at the keyboard players fingers and still can't get it.

Becuase of who YOU are is on heavy rotation at my church. We do it for nearly every atler call. I like it and the more we do the better I understand playing a bass part for it.

I feel ya.  Our Church wore that song out... before I began to play the bass though... We are rotating lots of new songs in.  My Pastor has us learning songs at a rapid rate.  The older songs we do are moving into the Wednesday Night services.  Clint has a New CD and Martha has  a New CD, that we are learning lots of songs from.

I wish repeatively did songs still, the one we do most common, is "I need you to survive" at the benediction.  And the Keyboard player is always asked to do "YOU are the LIVING WORD" sometimes when the church dives into the deep end of worship.

I normally would add more notes in between, but I made it simple so that artistic27 could get the concept.

Oh man...I have played that song in so many different styles over the years.  The chords already illustrated on this post are spot on, so there's nothing much I can add other than different keys.  I have played it reggae style, funk style, rock style, folk style, ballad style...lots!  The first church I played for liked to play it in the same style as 'The Joker' by Glen Miller.  I always thought that was a bit cheesy...especially the wolf whistle on the guitar!  That really used to make me cringe!!  ::)  For the sake of good taste...please don't play this song in that style!!

I did a search and it came up. Sounds like rock. Sounds like the same stuff Ty is doing now and his CCI pieces.

My timing is off but here's what I hear an dmaybe give you some new ideas on this clip.I dub over my bass run.
Hope you get some ideas from it also keep in mind.I still have bass run from the 60's to 70's in my head like it were yesterday.
That why my playing sound out dated.
To old and to late in the game for me to change, so i'm just adding on

I did that very basic so that the original poster could have an idea of the song.  There's many ways of playing it.  That's the version that I original learned so that's what I did for him.
