Post by: key-wiz on May 02, 2006, 02:33:11 PM: I Was Asked The Question "What Age Did I Start Playing" And I Was Like Wow I Can't Believe It Has Been That Long, Then I Answerd "I've Been Playing As Of June 16 Years, I Started When I Was 12" To Me That Is like Forever So I Pose This Question To My LGM Family How Long And At What Age Did You Start Playing????????

I then started playing the organ around 8 years old... at 9 I was playing for the singing angels children's choir at church. Now I am 26 years old. I know what you mean Wiz...it seems like forever to me as well. I honestly can't even remember what it is like not to play music.

My journey is a bit odd. I started taking piano lessons that were being sponsored through my elementary school at the age of 9 (Fourth grade). I learned some clarinet in the 5th grade and some trumpet in the 7th. At the age of 13, the Lord blessed me with the opportunity to play the drums for a church on some sundays when the opportunity arose and eventually I was blessed with an assignment at the age of 15 to the organist for a small methodist church in New York. Here I am today at the age of 20 using my talents for God. It has been a wonderful journey. The times that I've had to transition from using my services from one house of worship to another has been both a growing experience and an opportunity to become more acquianted with fellow believers. It has been a miraculous journey and I don't think I would change any of it. I pray that God will continue to bless me and anoint my hands and will allow me to grow so that at the age of 40, I can say I've been in the service even longer!

And now i just started playing the organ when i was about 7 and it has never gotten old. i learn new things every day. and God has just been blessing me and been good in my life.

I started when I was about 60, I am now 69. So even if you are a senior citizen and you want to play the piano, don't be afraid to start. I am not Ramsey Lewis, but I can play fairly well.

I actually started learning to improve my lack luster guitar playing. My son is a high school sophmore and has been playing organ for three years now. He ain't bad either. As an elder and spiritual father it's a blessing and I'm so proud. But when I show him stuff that it took me years to get and he locks it in a week I wanna break his fingers!......In Jesus' name. : )

went to college and the military and began playing keys at 20 I'm 40 now. I play by ear. While in
the army for 3-4 wks I dreamed of watching my uncles play and went to the chaple the next day
and replicated what I saw in the dream the night before. After the 4 wk a chaplain had a friend
who pastored a church in seattle looking for an organist.
He heard me practicing and offered me a job for $25 a sunday in 1987. I didn't know the
the name of the keys until 1997 but could play in all keys. I Thank God for the gift he gave
check my profile and see where the anointing can take you. THis August I will have be playing
Gospel 36 yrs and Keys for 21
