Title: College?
Post by: dubeats on April 28, 2004, 12:52:56 AM
Do you know of any 4 year colleges with a great music program that would support us gospel folks?

The place where I got my BA and MA has a GREAT music program, although not specializing in gospel music. There are a lot of opportunities for student work and scholarships through the College of Music and also through the university as a whole.

Southern Illinois University at Carbondale
Carbondale, Il, 62901

Their web page is www.siu.edu. Click the website for the Carbondale campus.

Be Blessed!

I agree with BBoy.  One of my girlfriends is about to graduate from Southern Illinois and she use to sing in the mass choir there.  I never heard anything but good things about them.  So,  you may want to go and check them out when you get a chance.   :P

Good luck to you in your search for a college to attend.

God Bless,

Song Bird

I think (if I'm not mistaken)  Flordia A&M is a good college for gospel music.  I remember that they made a CD and they sung a couple of songs with that gospel singer named Twinkle Clark-Terrell.  Also, you can't forget Fisk Jubliee if u want to sing with a notorious choir.  But the suggessions for colleges were also good.

It's the Carbondale campus that you will want to visit. The music program is great.

May the Lord direct you where He wants you!

Title: Music School or College

My alma mater, Morgan State University has a pretty well known choir and music program.  If you have ever heard of Jonathan Nelson, from Jonathan Nelson & Purpose - Everything You Are (Live in Baltimore), he went to MSU and studied music there, he also wrote "Manifest" recorded by Bishop T.D. Jakes.  It has a great music and engineering program if you're interested in the dual major deal.

If you are really looking to enhance your organ gospel style Howard University is definitely the place to be or FAMU. Howard University is in Washington and FAMU is obviously in Florida. But I went to Howard University for a music workshop and they had people such as Moses Tyson, Twinkie Clark, Melvin Crispell and Kevin Bond there to lecture and give one on one time. The music program as a whole is good and very versatile.
