Who is mainly incharge of the choir the director or the president?
-
I would think the president, however, those positions are probably defined differently in various music departments.
-
Which one will decide on what the choir will sing?
-
I think it depends on the structure of your music department, you probably would have to check with the minister of music to find out what the duties of each officer in the choir are.
By the way, welcome to LGM!!

Thank you, I have enjoyed it so far.

The president is mostly in charge of the choir functions, now are you talking about the choir director or the Director of Music? Bishop Cole
-
I'm talking about the choir director.
-
I'm talking about the choir director.
The choir director is in charge of music selection and choir decorum and anything dealing with music or choir music or choir singing parts. I hope this help, God bless, Bishop Cole
-
Yes it really did help. Thank you God bless.

I think it really depends on the Music Ministry structure.
I my case, the M.O.M. is over all in charge of each choir (and praise & worship team). There is a president who handles the administrative aspect of the choir, (i.e. outings, rehersal changes, corrospondence), behavior issues, etc. and communicates with the M.O.M.
However, we also have several directors who are gifted to teach and direct. They have no "formal" task but only to direct and teach songs of their choice (and the Lords), but the song has to go through the M.O.M. first, if it is not scripture based and doctrinally sound, the M.O.M. is NOT having it.
As for who picks songs for Sunday services, the M.O.M. works closely with the director(s) of each choir and together they come up with Sunday service selcections, but M.O.M. has the final say so on the selections.

I'll second this!

Thank You !! That's what I thought There isn't a M.O.M only a director. The president tries to take over as if it's his choir. He refers it as "his choir." He tries to stop everything the director does. With him it's his way or no way.

The Choir Director and I work together on all Songs.

Welcome to LGM!!
In our choirs, the director is mainly in charge. The president is in charge of the administrative functions. Bookings, announcements, contacting members to advise of cancellations, etc. The director is in charge of song selection, teaching songs, etc. The president basically helps to carry out the vision of the director.
Of course, as was stated earlier, it depends on the structure of your music department.

Well I'm both so...
-
umm... i think the director is...
-
well i have a question:
i pick the songs, teach the choir AND the musicians but i'm not the choir director or president.
what am i then?
