Title: Share your sax/horn clips here....
Post by: Jbroad572 on July 14, 2006, 04:09:13 PM
Anyone got any clips of them playing? I've got quite a few, but I will share a solo I had on Easter. This was my second solo at my church. You can probably tell I was very nervous, so nervous once I started I forgot the song. I faked my way through it until I got back on track and had to rely on a little run too much, got annoying to me after awhile, you will hear what I'm talking about. I also was shaking, running out of breath, and every other nervous thing that could happen, lol. The more you do it the easier it gets and that has proven true. I feel if I were to do it again, I'd be just fine.
The beautiful thing about this solo was everyone at the church loved it and it was appropriate and fitting for the service. I refused to listen to the recording for about a month, because it didnt go as planned, but I listened and knew what to work on next time and took it for what it was worth.

Well here you go...

Beautiful, definitely playing from within. Can I ask, what is your setup (horn/mpc)?

I play a Selmer Mk VI alto (1966), Vandoran A55 Jumbo Java Mouthpiece, Rovner Ligature and use Vandoren V16 reeds (2.0).

I use a lighter reed because the tip opening on the A55 is Huge for an alto mouthpiece.  The softer reed allows me those subtle variances in dynamics.  It also allows me to control the sound to my own liking.  The down side is that you really have to lock in the altissimo notes via your tongue, back of throat position in order to hold them.  It is a good trade off though.
