I visited a church last night that had 2 Organists. This looks rough. I just started a short while ago, and I LOVE playing. It would be ROUGH to have somebody just walk over and say: "Yo, let me get this one." I'd be like >:(
Is there anyone out there in a situation like that? Do you ever just wish you were the only Organist?
-
No, we have about 3 or 4 that play the organ. I love it because just in case one isn't there on Sunday, the other can play, etc.

I agree with you Ce, I only wished that I had another organ player so I can get MY SHOUT ON!!! Bishop Cole

We have 3 organist that worship at my church. I plan in the morning, while the others play the drums, sax, or keyboard. During the evening service, each organist have a set of choirs which they play for. So, it works out for all of us.
GOD Bless

I couldn't agree with you more Bishop Cole! It would be a blessing to have another organist from time to time, but I love praising God through music so much that I would probably end up jumping on another instrument.

We have 3 organists at our church. The pastor's wife, another lady, and myself. We know before hand who's going to play the entire service. No one kicks no one off the organ. I haven't played the C3 in almost 2 months. Our music director recently moved and the pastor's neice took over. She's new and still learning and hasn't gotten around to rotating the musicians. I'm trying to be patient but I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms, hehe. ;)

At my former church we had maybe about 4 organists. unfortunately, the minister of music left to be with another church so that prompted me to play every sunday up until I left.

WELL THERE ARE ABOUT 6 DIFFERENT ORGANIST IN MY JURISDISCTION THAT PLAYS FOR STATE EVENTS. SO WE JUST TELL THEM TO BRING THERE OWN ORGAN. IF THEY DON'T HAVE A ORGAN TO PLAY OF THERE OWN, THEY AREN'T GOING TO PLAY.
NAW IM JUST PLAYING. BUT THE ORGANIST WOULD JUST HAVE TO ROTATE ON DIFFERENT SUNDAYS. NOT DURING A REGULAR SUNDAY SERVICE THOUGH. YOU WOULD WANT TO TRY TO KEEP THE SAME VIBE FOR THE WHOLE SERVICE.

Most Church's we visit have more than one person that can play the Organ.
I am an Organist but, I play the piano on Sundays because we already had and Organist before I started to playing. He does not make all the evening programs or all the evening programs when visit other church's. That is when I play the Organ. Sometimes it is good to have musicians who can play both instruments.

We Have TwoOrgan players. Me and My cousin Steven. SOmetimes he'll Play his sax or he might play keyboard. That MEANS THAT I WILL PLAY organ that service. But For a while now we switched and he started to play organ while I play piano. And my other couisin P.J Plays drums for the first half of service then afterwards he comes up front and plays HIS saxophone. EIther way it goes, we have a good time and we have fun up there.

I like having more than one organ player.Me being a organ player myself im still learning. It be hard to try to remember how to play all the songs because some of the songs sound a like.
-
At 1 time in my former ministry we had myself, my mom, my brother in law, my sister and another minister who all played. I was the main organist for all services however on certain songs I would always defer to one of the others in the church.

if aint nick green or better then they are not allowed to play over at elizer (hope i spelled that right)

i have to totally agree with bishop cole. now i'm not the head organist but i like it when the music get high in shouting i like to jump off and get my shout on.

We have four at my church. And it makes it real easy especially if someone is touring with a group or just can't be there. There are two of us that are the main musicians but we will let the others play whenever they know the song. One is kind of just starting out he's been playing for a couple of years so it helps build confidence and I love watching and hearing people play for the Lord it's great.

do you organ players how two organs in the church? I'm curious because I've visited a church with two electric guitars before. They worked well together.
just wonderin'...
-
Gibby it wouldn't work. It would probably sound jumbled together. And also if they don't have a bass player they might have alternate base lines which would also change the foundation of the chord. For instants:
Speak to My Heart
When you get to the vamp I have heard people play it using this progression.
Eb/ Eb-F-A-C
D/ D-F-G-Bb
Db/ Db-F-G-Bb
C/ C-F-G-A
B/ A-Db-Eb-F strike this twice
Bb/ A-C-D-F
D/ Gb-A-D-F
G/ F-A-Bb-D-F
C/ F-A-Bb-D-F
Know I play you have to give it a feel though
F/ Eb-A-D-F-A-C
F/ D-Bb-D-F-G-Bb
F/ F-Bb-C-Db-F-G-Bb
F/ F-A-C-D-F-A
B/ E-A-D-G-B-D
B/ B-Gb-A-B-Db-Eb-F
Bb/ F-A-Bb-C-D-F
D/ Gb-C-F-A-Bb-D
G/ F-A-Bb-C-D-F-G-A-C
C/ F-A-Bb-C-D-F-G-A-C
You can do the same on the piano you just have to make it full and feel warm.

I feel you most def' RJ. I am the Minister of Music but I also have someone else that plays at my church and it is not on one accord. Musicians have a bad habit of trying to mark territories, as well as some preachers. It's nice when you are learning to be on your own too because that way you will never know what you can do or express your ideas, because people who are experienced have a tendency to be unwilling to listen to you.

We have 2 Organist at our church. Me and My brother.
-
i know how you feel but in my case i have an advantage because if you slip the other organist can catch you. so wat i do is when hes playing the melody i riff and vice versa aslo if the bass, guitar or drummer leaves to do something then i play either one of them
-
I feel you. At my church I play the organ and keyboard, and the other guy plays the organ and bass. The only difference is, he on't practice, and he tries to come in and change the music at the last minute, on sat., or wants to come in sunday and go over the music, which I ain't wit! But thenhe wants to jump on the organ, and because he don't know the music, he fumble over it. But he has been there longer than me, so I have to respect the position, so alot of times, when I get on the organ, and he wants to play, I tell him no rehersals, no playing.
-
I am at the church I play for but at my church sometimes I wish I was the only one playing. Either Im in a chord war or the other musicians are playing to much. One musician tries to out chord me but I really dont play that game Im more concerned with the music sounding good and ministering through the music. Although I have played that game before just to check people to let them know I know some of these chords but sometimes that is not necessary. The other musicians are always playing around and not being serious or playing to much and what I call framming over the keys.
-
I know what your talking about.
My godfather the main organist @ my church and hes always pushing me off the organ.
im good but he better

We have four. The pastor, his brother, a deacon, and me. The pastor hardly ever touches the keys though. We switch off. Whoever gets there first gets the organ. Next person gets the piano and the last gets the keyboard. It just sorta happens that way. Then we switch depending on what sons are being sung which we never know until the choir stands up.
