Hello Mr. Bigblackdrummer,

Are you really still a Steve Gad fan? Today?!!!
It's amazing he made the drumming evoluate, and for that i admire him. But today, when you see guys like Chris Dave (i know, there are no other guys like Chris Dave... ::) ), you still buy Steve Gad DVD... Well , is it for remembrance or you really still enjoy the playin'.

...I'm just a half serious, don't bit me down...   ;)

Yo Chris Dave has nothing on Steve Gadd, Chris will even tell you that himself. Feel and time are more important fast chops and Steve Gadd has all three! There isn't a true student of drumming who hasn't been influenced by Steve directly or indirectly!

Are you sure about that?

I'm well-aware of Gadd's legacy - however, Chris Dave isn't exactly "Lil Ray" down at the "shed" spot, only concerned with learning the latest licks.

Chris DEFINITELY has all three, as well. You may feel Gadd more than Dave, but that's definitely subjective. I also don't like how guys just cling to the past, and hold them up as THE standard, that can't be surpassed. I have uncles right now who'd swear up and down that Micheal Jordan couldn't hold Dr. J's jock strap, lol....

I know many people would deem it blasphemous to even compare Chris Dave to Steve Gadd. However, I call it like I see it. Respect the past for what it is, but don't under-rate the achievements of the musicians of the present, so that a legend can maintain his ranking in some musical hierarchy.

Furthemore, the fact that Chris Dave is somewhat reclusive - when Gadd is world famous among drummers "in the know" - it'd seem even more ridiculous to compare the two. I don't base it off of irrelevant things as that. I base it off what I hear when I hear them play. I'm assuming you're going to say you do the same.

Very well...

Well, excuse me, i didn't want to start a controversy,  I really respect both of 'em, even if my heart beats faster when i listen to Chris Dave. In the same time , he plays on most of my today's favorite recordings...

Anyway, it's good to read smart things in a music forum, are yall professional musicians?

Hmmm seen, point taken! Chris very similar to Gadd has blazed new trails and influenced scores of drummers (on a smaller scale). But sorry man; Chris is good but he aint coming up with stuff on the same level or feel Gadd did! Chris's arms dont reach all musical genres Gadds did and he left his imprint for life! Steve's an old man now (hes older then he looks!) so yes Chris would be more sharp now, but even in his old age Id go watch Steve before Chris.

I mean, your point about Gadd's impact is very well taken. I mean, that was not what I was arguing. However, just from my point of view, Chris Dave's playing just does it for me. Simply said. I mean, I know people who don't like Chris Dave at all - which only goes to show how subjective all of this is.

Gadd is a legend. Point Blank.

At the same time, I've never felt anyone's playing as much as I've feel Chris's. That's a testament, in my view, to Chris's brilliance - 'cause most drummers bore me, frankly. I'm not one of those guys who think a guy has to play fills non-stop(I'm sure you know that...) - it's just the flava that he brings...his approach....

....yeah. You get the picture.

funnies thing of the whole dvd is the duet with STING!
the band totally messes up the song (if you compare it to the cd-version(VC on drums))!
And you can hear a lot of feedback and bad intonation because the singers(MJB+Sting) cant hear themselves good enough!
I was really disappointed
even more than is was with the "Alicia Keys UNPLUGGED" DVD!!!

The funniest part for me was when she tried to sing with Sir Elton John! She butchered the song!

Wow... The DVD was that bad for real?

Makes a mental note to question Mary J Blige's credibility as a musician from now on...

He's on my DVD to get list as well. I have the Drummer's Collective DVD for now.

I might have to check that out L.A DVD. Guess I'll invest in the Destiny's Child DVD for Gerald.

It was really disappointing
the Live at LA is far better!!!!
But she is still a great artist.
but it was still whack stuff and bad!!!
maybe thats the reason for putting out the LIVE in LA-DVD just because she wanted to do it better, bigger, louder, more impressive and so on....
