but iv been told im mezzo soprano (between soprano and alto) but in a honesty, I aint got the foggiest LOL. ;D

I only ever knew soprano, alto,Tenor,Baritone and bass, :-\ im guessing theres a whole lot more. I wish i studied music now :'(

That is so funny, lol. I can't stop laughing. I love my alto sister, they crack me up. Altos are hardcore, sopranos will work with you, but we don't play that. We have the hardest job in the choir, so if things are not flowing right we have to give that person their walking papers.

PS The mezzo always sing in the alto section at my church. They cannot sing high enough to sing with our sky high sopranos.

That's messed up, choirs should have a bass section. I think the Thompson Community Singers had a bass section.......would that be 4 part harmony. Maybe that's why the were so spectacular, they had 4 sections holding it down.

my choir dont have a bass section. as a matter of fact we dont gots no men in our choir. We have some low altos who sing like tennor, but thats it. we dont even really have a saprano (well not what i would call saprano.)

You guys must have a small choir. I find it amazing when women can sing tenor comfortably and when men sing alto and Soprano.

What I notice is that it's acceptable for a woman to be a tenor, but many very popular famous choirs will not allow men to sing in the alto or soprano section. In my church choir, men have to sing tenor.....but we have 5 ladies who sing with the tenors and no one has a problem with that.

Atfer years of longing to be a "real" soprano, I began taking voice lessons and my voice teacher informed me that I was a soprano. When I'm tired or disenchanted, I'm tenor. When I'm deep in the presence of the Lord, I'm amazed how high my voice can go. I actually like to hear myself sing when I'm at that place. It's kinda like it's not me singing at all.

yep our choir small, and i dont think many members of the congregation wana join, tooooo much politics lol.

thats true you know. I know some guys who can sing alto and soprano AND THEIR VOICE HAS BROKEN :o but wen they sing in choir their placed in tenor, cos "soprano is for the ladies!!!"

but then again, I dont think they would have a lady in the bass section (oh yes, trust me, some ladies have deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeep voice lol)

It's like that in the choir I sing w/now. My director looks at me wierd when I want to sing w/the other sections. I'm not the ONLY Tenor, just the strongest. I tell her she needs to come off it. I mean, my voice isn't really very heavy so I rep my upper register. Is that a crime? ***Packs up soapbox and exits stage left*** ;)

It also seems that the more I train and practice, the more my voice begins to lean towards soprano, and my trainer says that my true voice is a mezz soprano.

Post by: sayyes on October 05, 2006, 06:58:28 PM: Singin Tenor is my job....singing alto is my pleasure (and im talkin that new alto which is second soprano...if you ask meah)....and if we're singin sum of them old songs in a real good key (G) i can scream sorpano without too much problem....but i was lookin at the poll results and it looks like most choirs whole bunch of altos and tenors one bass and a handful of sopranos......ALTOS stop bein lazy and sing soprano......LOL......

I've noticed that as well, but never understood it.

I used to be a very strong alto, but now I sing tenor in the group that I am in. I sing alto only when I have to.
