Title: SMOOTH Octave Change
Post by: PianoWizard on July 29, 2006, 10:44:42 AM
Hey my fellow LGMer's....

I was sitting in front of my keyboard letting my fingers do some talking and I realised I do not have any smooth movements that allow me to move from one octave up to the next. Does anyone have any SMOOTH hints, tips or something that can help me do this, its just another technique that I would like to add to my existing library.

Thanks

PianoWiz...

I'm assuming this is what you're talking about.  Here is the way Classical musicians do it:

Use your 1st and 5th fingers when on white-key octaves
Use your 1st and 4th fingers when on black-key octaves

Practice this chromatically up and down the keyboard with both hands.  Then practice this method with Major and Minor scales.  Try hands in contrary motion.  You'll be suprised how much faster you can play octaves with this method.
