Title: Cyrus Chestnut
Post by: darkwing on July 31, 2006, 01:53:49 AM
Have you ever checked out Cyrus Chestnut (piano) for some sweet Jazzed up Gospel arrangements?  He's got a killer arrangement of "Great Is Thy Faithfulness".  Most of his albums are Jazz, but he always throws in a Gospel hymn or two.  I saw him live at Yoshi's and he was amazing.  I can only imagine a church service with him on the piano.

Yes, this dude is well trained. He received Oscar Peterson awards or scholarships. His chops are well honed. His latest CD is loaded with spirituals played in solo jazz style.

Next to Oscar Peterson, Cyrus Chestnut is my favorite pianist.  I can sit back and listen to his stuff for hours on end, he's just real smooth with intelligent soloing to keep it fresh.
