Some choirs say yes and some say no!

What do you think?

All I have to say in slow motion "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo oo". lol I dont like wearing robes depending on how they are made they can get in the way. ie A drummer wearing a robe or a organ player. It get caught on your foot depending on how long it is.

Well in our church the musicians are part of the choir and if the choir wears robes the entire choir wears robes which means musicians included.... :).....Although we do not wear the robes during all services, it really does depend on the occasion.

I don't care either way.  I don't have to wear one now, but if I do when we get our new ones, then I will.  No different than wearing a long skirt on the drums/organ.

NAW MAN!!!!! As long as the musicians are dressed decently and in order, we shouldn't have to wear robes. It's too hot in FLAWDA to be wearin a robe!! (Although I do feel for the choir members)!!

I aint wearing no robe lol. I think if the musicians are unified then that is good enough. Plus I cant see them trying to groove with it on.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! I am a female drummer and I will not wear a robe even when I wear bell bottoms slacks they get caught on the pedal and I would pass out in the robes, they just look hot!! The is why I didnt sing in the choir EVER!!! even b4 I started to play.

I say " NO',it would just be in the way,"BUT",i do think some musicians need to take what they are wearing mo seriously. Not a hat backward,or jeans,tims,etc..., they should try to match the chiors colors.

I TOTALLY agree with you.  Some musicians I know, just come dressed like they are fresh out of the bed or basketball court.  I am not a musician, but I think that playing with a robe on would be very uncomfortable. So to answer the question, NO.  However, I do think that all the musicians should be unified when they are playing.

I would rather wear a robe than to hear someone complain about what I have on. For exapmle, I don't want to wear a skirt every Sunday but in the church I am play at all females must wear skirts. Well, if I have on a robe than it won't matter whether I have on a skirt or pants. As long as I am unified with the choir.

I do have this problem though. Why is it that people in the congregation are always looking at what the MOM or organist has on. What about the bass players and the percussionists???

If I'm in the congregation and everyone, choir and musicians,  is wearing robes it does look very nice  ;D

However I think robes  should be optional for the musicians because a robe could get in their way, or maybe they could get too hot.

I would have to say NO!!! After having been pulled out of the choir on the only sunday we wear robes to play, I can say its definitely uncomfortable!! and HOT!!! Our MOM
(and I when I have to play usually wear matching colors as the choir (blue and white, black and white/all black)

I just think that too much material hanging around the instruments could end up catastrophic mess.  It can be too restrictive and hinder the performance.  When a person is constantly moving, it creates heat, and a robe on top of that will have you passing out. But, I do think that musicians should be appropriately dressed for the occasion as well.  I just saw someone playing the piano at a wedding with some jeans and an almost white t-shirt on, so inappropriate.

I say no.

As long as the musicians have some sort of guidelines for dress it should be up to them as to what they wear.

I know at our church we have guidelines for ANYONE on the platform, not just musicians..and it works well.  We dont have robes for our choir because we believe that its unnecessary and kind of a waste of money when we only run 50-100 ppl... BUT even if we did, musicians would be exempt :D i would make sure of it... hah.

I don't think musicians just have to wear robes during service, however, I do feel their clothing should represent the fact that they are ministering as well as the preacher.

Hello LMG, It has been a long time since I posted something. And that was only one time I think...lol
As to the Question " Should the Musicians where robes during service?" I do look at the musicians being apart of the music ministry, but carry a different role so to speak. Currently, our choir's do not wear robes, like the other bro said it is hot in flawda, so plan B is to wear other attire, may be light suit for the ladies and a leisure suit for the fellows, our kids, on the sunday they sing, we have dress down day, and they wear Jeans and a white tee, tucked in.....lol which makes it better for the youth to see we as adults are trying to meet them where they are. If there is a specific color it would be nice for the musicians to dress in that color. I Director of music at my church, but I am also the musician, look at it this way, if our choir wore robes, if I directed a song I would wear the robe, but as a musician, my position is different, I am not a choir member, An accomppianst (oops) or choir Director I will dress appropiately. There is more physical activity for a musician then a choir member and it reeks havoc. In all sincerity I would be open to discussion with the staff. If dress approiptiatly, should it matter, God looks at the heart. For those of youthat is in Ministry, follow God's order for your life and ministry.

Should musician wear robes? My friend we must remember that this is not a one size fits all question. What may work in one church may not necessarily work in another. However, at the church where I am the minister of music I usually wear a suit or at least a necktie that will coordinate with the choir's robe for that particular Sunday.

maybe its my lack of conviction but i would rather get fired for being able to worship God with having to be dressed by whoever decides what the choir wears when they dont function for the whole and dont wear there robes for the entire service either

simply put.. i just personally, think it looks better on a whole.I've seen some dynamic chiors, and the musicians got on tim's,baggy jeans, but the chior is matching ,or dressed to the nines.Maybe because i played in groups, before i played for the Lord,i'm just used to all of us matching,it just looked better. But as for a rhobe???never,it could definatly hinder a musician, but just looking neat, and matching, just addes a more appealling look.

my three cents
be blessed ya'll.

Welcome to LGM withthesehands, angiey, bishop sam, Mzbabygrand, jan68, georgiakentucky, and anybody else I may have missed.

As a minister.......Sometimes I wear a robe, sometimes I wear a suit and tie.  It doesnt' bother me either way.  I stll sweat.

As a choir memeber.....Sometimes we wear a robe, sometimes we dress in regular dress clothes. Either way it doesn't bother me.  We still sweat.

As a muscian........We always wear regular dress clothing.  Never robes.  If we had a choice I wouldn't want to wear the robe while I play.  Either way we still sweat.
I think musicians have more obstacles than anyone else ie. keys, strings, foot pedal, etc.  If we hit a bad note, wrong string, or miss a beat, nobody tryin' hear "my robe got in the way".  The whooooole church just looks over in that direction. ::) ::)

For me the answer is no.  I used to wear a robe, but, it always got in the way of the foot pedals.  But the main reason I stopped was beccause it kept the heat from escaping, and once I almost passed out from the heat after playing a couple of fast songs for a long time.  I had to open up the robe and my clothes to quickly cool off.  I do wear a suit sometimes or matching type shirt and pants.  Be Blessed.

I happen to be a musician and choir director.  In most cases, I wear the same outfit as the choir for unity's sake.    However, the choir only wears robes for once or twice a month, and they wear coordinated colors (wardrobe calendar) for other Sundays.   For special occasions, we prefer the musicians to wear wear black, again for unity (we are in Chicago - it can get cold).

As it has been said, I do agree that the musicians should at least look appropriate for church, with allowances for comfort.    As my grandma used to say you have to be dressed well enough cause you are "before the people".

At my church, we are finally putting an end to Jerseys and sweatpants.  One musician goes to work after church, but should someone ever wear a neon-green jacket at church (he's a traffic management worker)....

May God continue to bless the LGM family.

We'll my BIBLE reads "...come as you are".  Many musicians have been in the scene enough to know you need to look presentable.  Now as far as robes go, my church you have to pay for you own robes.  Also there are a handfull of groups that sing in a months time.  Like for example.  Praise team for devotion, childrens choir, Senior choir, Mass choir, and the adult choir.  If the musician had to pay for all of the outfits and robes  I doubt he/she would be able to afford it.  Stopping the music to put on a robe/shirt for the next group would cause a riff in the flow of the service to usher in the holy spirit. As many of us know that music changes the whole tone of the churches atmosphere.

Finally, it should be a discussion between the pastor and the musicians as to what to wear.  Personally I feel like if they are presentable, they can play and praise the lord all the same   ;D

Well fortunately for the choirs that I play for most of them don't wear robes. So there is really no issue there. When I played for a church that did wear robes i normally could coordinate the robe color with a shirt and tie or something. However, as a musician I feel that it really can get in the way. For a brief period I played for a church wear I tried to wear a robe and it just didnt work for me. One of the last churches I played for tried to coax me into wearing a robe and I politely let them know that I would not be comfortable. However, I personally leave it up to the musician, whatever is comfortable for them. Just as long as they are dressed decent and presentable.

At my home church, where I am one of the musicians, I have my own robe, but find it to be very hot and heavy to my arms when trying to play.  So I have an outfit that is the same color as the robes and wear it
when we travel.

For very special occasions, I try to wear the robe.
Besides the robe is a decoration, it is the individual that gives the service.
Always remember that God looks at the heart and if our service is for real; Man looks at the decoration.
