I was wondering what people think about this guitar. I’m considering purchasing it for gospel church and quartet music. Do you guys think that this will be a good guitar for the type of music that I’m playing?

I won't say that it's ugly so I'll say that it is quite unattractive!! ;D Not my cup of tea!
-
what kind of bass would you recommend?
-
I am feeling the new upgraded Highway One models now with Bad@$$ bridges! Too bad they don't come with maple fretboards!

What's your budget look like? For 4 string basses, I prefer Fenders! For 5 string basses I prefer Yamaha TRB or BB style basses, MTD Kingston/Heir, Lakland Skylines G&L Tributes for mid level priced instruments ($500-$1000)!
-
man that thing is almost as ugly or dare i say MORE ugly then the MM bongo...lol
-
I agree! I don't like the looks of the Bongos either! I like traditionally styled bodies and headstocks!
-
do not spend your money on that ugly thing!!! ;D ;D

They should with all those switches ;D ;D!!! But really looks can be deceiving. If it plays well to you and sounds like what you are looking for, get it. I myself wouldn't but if that's what you want and you get the sound that you are looking for, by all means get it. I was just playing with my last comment, don't take it to serious. ;D ;D

I don't care how good the thing sounds, I just can't bring myself to play an ugly looking bass! :o I just like basses that look good and play well! But that's my hang-up!

Well, I used to own a Fender Jag guitar 11yrs ago and it was incredibly fiddly and unpredictable. I would assume the bass version would be just as frustrating to use.
It's not the first time Fender has used the Jag shape for a bass. The 5-string Baritone Jag bass was the first all the way back in the 60's, but never really took off and they stopped production in the early 70's. I think they have reissued that model a couple of years back.

It would have to be an incredible bargain (<$300) for me to bite. And even then, if the price were too low, I'd assume that it is because the build quality was as bad as the aesthetics. There are too many good choices in the $300 - 500 range to take a chance on something you don't know a lot about and is u&1y to boot. Yamaha, Ibanez, Fender and Schecter make very good basses in this price range.
Okay, now y'all look away while I snatch Jeremyr up by the collar.....

[deep voice on][uncontrollable eye twitch on] I heard you called mah bass ugly, boy. Whatchu doin' callin' mah bass ugly? Do I have to teach you about comin' up in here talkin' that jibber-jabber? [/deep voice][/uncontrollable eye twitch]
I own a Bongo 5 string. Okay, yeah, it's aesthetically challenged......They actually DO look much better in person (sounds like someone describing a blind date, huh?). I really had no intention of buying it, but let me tell you, if you've never played one before, you'd be SHOCKED at how good they sound (No, she's not all that pretty, but she's got a good heart. And she can cook). I am trying to sell it, but not because I don't like it. It's because I have several other custom basses that do what the Bongo does better. But then they oughta, 'cause they cost a lot more than the Bongo.
Peace,
James

A co-worker/fellow bass player came running into the shope raving about this bass using foul language to discribe to how great the bass is. He was talking about about 10 years ago fender afford this bass at 2 or 3 times the cost. If you can get past the looks I would believe him whne he says how good it sounds.
Oh and HEY! I like the looks of the Warwick Thumb bass. :D

Oh and HEY! I like the looks of the Warwick Thumb bass. :D
I have a Warwick Thumb, 2 Dolphins and a Streamer and a lot of people over the years have said to me that they didn't like any of their body shape designs. As much as I love the way they all sound and play even I have to admit that they are pretty unusual by appearence (notice that I didn't say ugly!). I personally love the look of the Dolphin as it looks like a combination of my two favorite basess...the Fender Jazz and Warwick Thumb (well, in my world it does!). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! :P
One thing I love the most about Fender products is that they have never deviated from their original designs too much over the past 40+ years. They have stood the test of time and they are still one of the biggest players in the musical instrument industry. I think this bass will sell very well because of it's retro appeal and I can see it being very popular with Indie/Britpop, Metro Rock, Reggae and Blues bassists...it really does look the part...I like it! ;D
-
To be honest, the only Warwick I like the looks of is the Streamer I's and II's! For some reason, Warwicks just don't fit my body well. The body's seem so small!
-
I like Thumbs and Streamers, but I REALLY like the Infinity 2000. Sweet design, especially with the F-holes
Peace,
James
