Man, get a EQ2 batter and a EQ2 for the resonant.
EQ2 batter: (http://www.evansdrumheads.com/Resources/JDCEVA/Images/Products/BD__GB2.jpg)
EQ2 resonant: (http://www.evansdrumheads.com/Resources/JDCEVA/Images/Products/BD__RS.jpg)
Description for the EQ2 batter: An extra-durable two-ply head (10mil external ply, 6.5mil internal ply) with an internal overtone control ring, a removable EQ muffle ring, and dry-vents...the EQ2 gives the microphone what it wants to hear, yet can project without mikes.
Description for the EQ2 resonant: The 7mil EQ2 resonant head features an overtone control ring and a unique slotted "studio grill" situated to diffuse air from the point of beater attack, offering the ideal balance between a solid and ported front head.

...I don't know Jay...
...It sounds like he's still going to be missing those 2" of depth even if he has those heads. A 16x20 is more of a Jazz, real punchy kick drum to me and what he's describing sounds like an 18x20 or even a 20x20 inch kick sound that he wants to pull out of the old 16" depth. I don't know man. ?/? Could it be done? He would probably get a "fat" sound but I don't know about the deep characteristic of it. :-\
-
Wouldnt the EMAD give him the punch he is looking for?
-
He's not comparing a 20" depth to a 22". You can still tune a 20" depth to sound deeper or higher in pitch - again, not comparing the potential of a 22" depth versus a 20" depth. Fat would describe the attack and deep would denote the pitch. But, I'm a old guy, so what do I know? ;D

Yes, the majority of 2 ply heads would.
-
i personally wouldnt use a emad resonant head just because of bad experiences..

...I know but look.... he stated he has a 16" deep x 20" kick and he wants a fat, "deep", punchy sound out of it. What I'm saying is that he could get the fat and punchy sound because his kick is a 20". "Deep wise", it's not 17", 18" or even 20" inches deep so I don't know how deep of a sound he could get out of the 16" depth even with the pitch being low. It seems like a 16x20 is a quick, punchy bass drum but I really don't know about the deep charecteristic of it. I hope I clear it up a lil'. :-\ ?/?
...maybe I need to go back to sleep and rethink this situation out. :-\

Its obvious that i cant get a sound which is as deep as a 18"deep bassdrum!!!
I just want to know which head u would suggest for the deepest possible sound.
Do you understand what i mean?
;)
Thanks

...well you have to think about something; We have many different levels of drummers on this board. You have to be specific on your thread man. Half the time I find myself answering the beginners questions more then the intermediates or advanced. Thanks, that's exactly what I've een trying to say, but what do I know? I'm just an old guy...
...lol. dude you're a mess. ;D

Um, it seems as though the EMAD has become the standard for bass drum heads (or maybe it's my inexperience). I have purchased 3 bass heads in my drumming lifetime and each has been an Evans EMAD. It is a great head, but why does everyone seem to suggest it like there's no rival on the market? Personally, I love the way it sounds, but I'm interested in finding an equivalent.
I hope that doesn't come off as confrontational b/c it definitely isn't. It's just a sincere curiousity. ;) ;) ;)
Be blessed

i hope i didnt offend n e body here
if so im sorry for that (JFunky and j_kay ;) )
i think i will give the EMAD the first shot
if i dont like it i will buy another head

Right now im playing coated ambassador on snare, clear emperors on the toms and a powerstroke 3 on the bass!
any equivalents from Evans?
check my clip if u want to have a bit of a clue of "my sound"

I use and EQ1 Reso and an EMAD batter on my 20" x 14" Rogers and it rattles windows in a small spot... straight sub. So the combo that J_kay is suggesting is not a bad on in the least. The fact the "vents" will disperse the higher overtones all he would get is mid and lows. Aided by the fact that he would be loosing air compression the sound would reman big.

So what would your suggestions be as equivalents from evans???
