Title: If you like Chris Dave you'll love this clip
Post by: fenderjazz on November 10, 2006, 07:45:56 AM
Here's a clip of drummer John Lamkin blazin on a gig with Kenny Garrett. I guess this is before Chris Dave was in the band or while he was on another tour somewhere else. Anyway John and Kenny were going crazy!

lol...

No offense, but why make a topic with Chris's name in it, if the video doesn't have Chris in it.

That's false advertisement, buddy! You get one demerit!

He's a NASTY LEFTY!!  UGH!!!   >:(

Great clip for 2 reasons.

1.  Its KENNY GARRETT!!!!
2.  This cat is a lefty

This is amazing.  However it is false advertisement.  I demand that the heading on this clip be changed immediately and this cat get banned from the site under the pretenses of false advertisement!!   ;)

Man, i love his feel and how he approaches the music. I like the energy and aggression. If only I knew a way to break this out in church..... I will figure it out soon

Believe it or not, it takes a great deal of selfLESSNESS to play that way.  The way that cat was playing was all about the music.  Its not about showcasing licks and blowing chops.  He was playing his part in the music.  To play in that vein and be supportive take monsterous ears!!  You're listening to a mouse tinkle on cotton you're listening so hard!  Its not impossible to pull off.  But since the musical atmosphere is so thick, it is also a very fragile one and the balance can easily be thrown off by the slightest miscalculation.  It also takes gobbs of trust.  You if you have any doubts in anyone on the bandstand and are afraid that they can't carry their weight then you need not even try.  Everyone's roles are interdependent.
