The following thread (which is linked to the Fender Discussion Page) has me wondering if we are in the midst of an "anti-slap bass" movement.

What are your thoughts?

.......................that, is going NOWHERE

My opinion? Those comments are from mostly 'young' inexperienced and closed-minded folks! I've seen many slap solos from country artists bass players! I.E. Keith Horne! Look him up and educate yourself! I can get into a few other reasons but I won't do that here because this should be a positive discussion forum! :)

Not at all. That's just sounds to me like some people who play music that don't use the technique. I mean with any musical style, there are things that should be done in moderation or at the appropriate time. I mean I love thumping, but I can't do it on every single song I play. I've got to know when to use it. Even Larry Graham, the man that invented the technique will play with his fingers and not thump or slap. I've seen him do it live. He sounded just as great because he was grooving. As with any forum, you will have those that disagree whether it be geniune or just to start some mess.

I hang out on the FDP quite often. Most of those anti-slappers aint exactly spring chickens. Close minded? Yes. Young? Once upon a time. God forbid that anyone should play bass with a (shock and horror) pick!

Well I did say I had other opinions! And I used to feel that way about playing with a pick but I've long since changed my stance on that subject!

Say that again!

That's like people saying that a bass with more than 4 or 5 strings isn't a bass.

As with all music, different styles for different types of music and different parts of music. Do what fits.

Some people belong to the Church of the Four-String Bass and anything else is considered to be of the devil. Oh yeah, you have to use flat wound strings and no active eq or any of that silliness either. You know, I wish people woud just shut up and play thier basses.
