Ok,
I just picked this up at GUitar Center. Guy let me have it for $60 its the SE with the book and DVD. Anybody ever used it?

I paid $10 for the book on eBay. Those DVD's are worth $50?
Hmmm...well, here's my opinion on FBL if you want it:
it's only as good as the time you put into practicing what it tells you to practice.
It uses the CAGED system of chord shapes to teach the logic of the guitar neck and in many ways it's beneficial but it doesn't cover everything.
Some folks find FBL a real eye opener and it unlocks many mysteries of the guitar.
Other folks don't like it because they think it's a short cut to learning to play.
There are no short cuts.
Study, practice, apply, repeat, enjoy. :)

i never saw the need of it because once i learned the positions of the major scale, everything just made sense........and it always made sense that those chord shapes ore moveable anywhere on the neck...when i thumbed through the book, it was just stuff i already understood from playing........
but 60 bucks is way too much, IMHO

Study, practice, bleed, and practice some more. I can't feel my fingertips already and I've only been at it for about 2 weeks.! My arthritic fingers are havin a ball trying to crawl all over this fretboard!

That's how I felt about it, too, but over the years I've learned that everyone sees things or processes things a little differently so where shapes and patterns make sense to some, others use mathematical logic and straight theory and still others use a combination of both and then some.
To me, it was very exciting to find out that learning 1 barre chord, say F in the first position, automatically taught me 10 other chords...all I had to do was slide up one fret and then another fret and then another and so on...but I tell some of my students that, all excited about this "learn 1, get 10 free" deal and they stare back at me like a stone. ?/?
For them, I have to go through some of the theory as to why chords sound like they do and explain that the same theory applies as you move throughout the fretboard.
That usually does it but sometimes I still get the ?/? look.
