Title: played on an EDEN WT-800 today WOW..worthy investment?
Post by: shonuffgd on December 30, 2006, 12:40:11 AM
being a rookie to this thing here i'm learning more everyday reading your guys' & gals' posts, so i went to the atlanta bass gallery this past weekend and played for a few minutes on  and eden traveller and a eden 2 x 10 cab ... man thats how it's suppossed to sound, i've been playing at my church for a year now and playing bass exactly that long but i started out w/ a $130 hamer 4 string and earlier this year i purchased a 5 string peavey ml bxp, i've been playing on the equipment that the church has a single 15 combo amp that looks about as old but i'm about to make an investment into an amp head and i was looking at the swr working pro 700 or the eden wt-800, a guy i work with has a 4 x 10 harke & 1 15 hartke that he said he would sell me for 400 i'm going to go by his studio and check them out , would this make a nice setup? or would a different set of cabs work better with this amp head? I'd like to hear from some of you peeps that use an eden or swr amp head

I would go ahead and buy his cabs to start you off theres nothing wrong with that. $400 for a 4x10 and 1x15 is cheap enough. Then you can seel that when you are ready to get the eden cabs.  If you get those cabs in a year or so you may even be able to sell them for more then what you have paid. That's the beauty of buying decent equipment used.

I agree with Mike. Since you are just starting, those cabs would do just fine.  But if you are real serious, you would want to invest in some good top dollar equipment.  I'm currently using peavey, but next month, or when my tax money comes in, I will be picking up an Eden rig for sho!!!!!  The wt-800 is a beast and paired with the 410xlt, you will have some killer tone.  Play4zero can explain more on Eden.  But you will never go wrong with eden.

Talking about starting off. I am starting myself off quite well I think. Right now I have the Gallien-Kruguer Backline head that runs 300watts and when my refund check comes in I will be getting the matching 4x10 and 1x15. Then later on I will be uping grading either an Eden stack or a Kustom stack. Kustom has a 1200 watt @2ohms head, costing $600. That my be mine.

The Eden WT series amps are very meaty compared to the SWR amps.  I owned an SWR Bass 750 and Goliath III that is now down at the church.  In order to get the same level of bass out of it as I get from my Eden WT800 I set the bass knob at about 3 o'clock.  The other night I compared my Nav/WT1250 with an old all tube Sunn 200S.  I cranked the bass on the Sunn up all the way and got the same tone that I got with my rig set flat.

The Eden stuff is very meaty, yet also very focused.  the SWR stuff tends to be sort of sterile (although you can get a nice slap tone using the aural enhancer, as you can with the Eden using the enhance knob) and the Ampeg is just too muddy and unfocused for me, although, very roadworthy stuff.

The question is what do you want to hear?  the second is what can you afford?  If you can get a deal on the Hartke's, use them and then later sell them for more than you paid for them, go for it.  That's how I got my stuff.  Barter here, exchange there, sell this, buy that and the next thing you know, you've got some good stuff.
