I would like to show you a progression I use sometimes when im starting a song or finishing…you can start it wherever, and as long as you do it right ………you can pick your spots……
Lh/rh
On majors…1 and 5/ sub dominant 7 and 3
On minors…1 and 5/ dominant 7 flatted 3
Let’s use the key of C …..
You hit the chord like one chord..first…then you will have this suspended sound on the 7…now!! If it’s a major, you will drop the 7 to it’s dominant 7……so if you are hitting this chord on the 1..which is a major….then you will drop the sus7 ( sub7..b) to A (it’s dominant)…..
Now!
If it’s a minor…..you still hit it as a chord first…you’ll still have the sus7 sound! But!your sus7 is your minor chords dominant7…( D’s dom=C) D is your 2 chord and a minor.. so you will drop your 7(dom of 2) to it’s SUB DOMINANT! B…..
You can go up an down the board with this and it is awesome for quiet times…you can make it like a game……when you just keep it in the white notes,,,,your hands will fall right in place as you study and look at it……this little but highly effective chord is nothing but a SEVENTH CHORD!!!!!! I know this is theory, but I couldn’t help but share this…….i love the way it sounds!!!try it……
Now this is the progression;2..3..4___you can also reverse it going back to the 1 also!
DG/CF….SUS7.TO B
EB/DG….SUS7 TO..C
FC/EA….SUS7 TO..D
THE SUS 7= OFF OF THE PATICULAR NOTES SCALE DEGREE!!!! IN THIS CASE…D..E..F…..GIERES

Very nice. I'll have to work on this some more. That exercise just turned a big light bulb on.

I just found this in a search. Would it be too much to ask, for you to do a MIDI of this. I tried out the chords that were writtten, but Im not catching the explanation. It sounds like it could be a good asset. Please consider a MIDI, I know its old but I think people would appreciate it on the board. I know I would.
Thanks

i don t get what you are saying when you say drop it to its dominant
you said if you start on the one chord which is c
i play 1-5 in my left and
the subdominant 7 do you mean I play f7 over cand g in my left hand
then you say drop it to a its dominant A is the dominant of D so I am really confursed
i played the example it sounds real nice but it isnt what you are describing help me understand this please
i may be over thinking it
the subdominat is the four chord right?
or do you mean the subdominant note s
like f-b-E

I WAS REFERING TO THE ACTUAL SCALE OF THE CHORD I AM PLAYING!
EX.
IF I PLAY A CMAJOR7, IT COULD BE WITH THE MAJOR7 OR FLATTED 7 RIGHT?
SO I CALL THE FLATTED 7 THE DOMINANT, AND THE MAJOR 7 THE SUBDOMINANT!
SOOOOOOOOOO
IF I AM DESCRIBING HOW TO PLAY THIS CHORD, SAY LIKE THE FIRST CHORD, I AM TRYING TO GIVE YA A BASIC THEORECTICAL WAY OF UNDERSTANDING IT, NUMERICALLY! AND HELP YOU TO GET THE SOUND I GET WHEN I PLAY IT!
THEY ARE ALL MAJOR SEVENTH CHORDS! AND I AM REALLY NOT DOING ANYTHING DIFFERENT FROM WHAT YOU WOULD DO IF YOU JUST PLAYED THESE CHORDS IN ANOTHER WAY!....FOR INSTANCE!
CG/BE - IS REALLY; C/GBCE
BUT THEN I TELL YOU TO DROP FROM THE SUB DOM 7 ( B ) TO YOUR 6...IT WONT SOUND LIKE I WANT IT TO SOUND IF YOU DO IT LIKE THE SECOND WAY I WROTE IT!
SO PLAY IT LIKE THE FIRST WAY, AND DROP TO THE 6, AND YOU WILL GET THE EFFECT I WANT YOU TO HEAR!
NOW I AM TELLING YOU, THAT ANYTIME YOU'RE ON A MAJOR OR SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED MAJOR, LIKE A 4, 5, 1 CHORD, YOU CAN USE THIS THEORY OF UNDERSTANDING!
NOW ON THE MINOR JUST USE THE FLATTED 7 ( DOMINANT 7 ) FROM THE START! WHICH IS NORMAL!
ON THE MAJOR CHORDS, YOU USE YOUR MAJOR 3RD, AND YOUR MAJOR OR FLATTED 7
ON A MINOR, YOU USE YOUR MINOR 3RD, AND YOUR FLATTED 7.....BUT FOR TALKING TIMES, AND SOFT TIMES, DO IT LIKE I POSTED IT, AND YOU'LL BE BLESSED I AM SURE! SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE!
AND I WILL DO A MIDI OF THIS AS WELL!
