Title: NFL History : 2 Black coaches reach the top!!!
Post by: iamworship2006 on January 22, 2007, 10:57:58 AM
So does it really matter who wins to you?

So does it really matter who wins to you?

Sure does!

Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison are all-timers.  Coach Dungy has been coaching for quite a while now.

I think the Colts are more deserving.

I have mixed emotions because I have such respect for both coaches. They both had a long road to get to this point. I'll be happy with either team. Who's gonna be the Doug Williams of coaching for the NFL? WE will see on Feb 4th. Lovie and Tony did brothers everywhere proud..

FOR ME IT DOESN'T.. I just want to say I watched a piece of history.  I will say I appreciate Tony Dungy always putting God 1st. Last night he had nor problem giving all the credit to God and even in the comeback  he said it was the Lord doing. So I gotta root for Tony not so much Peyton of Harrison but Tony because he in the limelight has no problem giving God the credit.

Works for me.   ;D

But in the end whoever wins I will be equally happy. As Furious said this has been a long hard road for black coaches and yes I hope we will not see another Doug Williams doen to these guys..

What's going to be soooo annoying to me is the fact that this tidbit will be blown up for the next two weeks. I wish the game went back to being a week after the conference championships.

I can't take all of the media hype. It's not necessary. It's the Super Bowl; it sells ITSELF.

.....come on man...you know better...It's the league's chance to cozy up to OUR demographic.  It's their chance to show how that ridiculous "......MUST INTERVIEW A BLACK COACH" rule has worked.

......I wonder how many "demographically specific" commercials will be added to the line-up?    ie: JAY-Z's Bud ad

Yes, sir.

I got my Colts gear on right now. (I work in a place that's full of Saints fans so I'm stepping around rather quietly.)

When I realize that there would be two black coaches at the SuperBowl, I got so excited.

GO Colts!! But, if they lose, GO Colts!! eerrr I mean, bears.

SJon, any thoughts on Parcells retiring?

My brother-in-law is a Saints fan.(expected from somebody who is from Louisana) he was sick during and after the game. I could not torment  him enough yesterday.

I know.  That game was rather horrible to say the least.  You couldn't even blame the weather.  They really forgot how to play football.

I believe that the Rooney Rule has been great for the NFL. The college ranks are the most pathetic of all these corporate giants to me. Lovie Smith came up under Tony Dungy. Tony really paved the way for the modern black NFL coach. He has done it with a class that surpasses most people's understanding and personal drive. The Rooney rule doesn't give anyone a job or meets a quota. It  gives lesser considered Black coaches an opportunity to impress owners (hiring authorities) around the NFL. Lovie Smith benefited from this rule. Otherwise we may not of ever heard of him.

I hope the media trumpets this accomplishment to the masses because people who discount the value of affirmative action and diversity needs another inoqulation to their lies. Conservative media's need to champion the rights of people who experience "reverse discrimination" is comical to say the least. That's an oxymoron if I haven't heard one. Tony and Lovie have acknowledged the mantle on their careers but with grace they have handled their success properly. For that I respect the two very much... It's great to see history been made by such class individuals.

As is usually the case, the SPIRIT of the rule is wonderful.....but the IMPLEMENTATION of the rule is flawed to the point of almost being comical.

................EXAMPLE:  How many times can (or will) Art Shell  accept token interviews for open positions????

That loophole is embarrassing to the SPIRIT of the rule!!!............................just an opinion.

Sjon,

Ha Ha Ha!! For the record I do know what inoculation means. Sometimes I'm a horrible speller. For the record every word that I use I know the meaning of sir...lol Inoculation simply means to produce a medicine that fights a disease. My words are timely due to my beliefs of Racisim being a sickness. So I am not the prison character from In living color either. (Damon Wayans)

Sax I did catch the earlier post of How long have you been a black coach. In 1988 Doug Williams was asked how long have you been a black quarterback?. Not how long you been a quarterback but a black one. Hilarious.. The Rooney Rule isn't perfect but it is a means of changing things. The sad part is in 2007 Race still matters. Dr. Cornel West was right. This weekend can shatter the barriers in the NFL for candidates who wouldn't in otherwise be considered for jobs.
