Check out this cat. For those who aren't familiar with him, he plays an 8-string guitar with 3 bass strings and 5 guitar strings. He is amazing on this instrument. Sorry if he's already been posted before.

I remeber the first time I heard his music; I was amazed. I thought to my self; "this is just one guy playing?"! Now Stanley Jordan blew me away with his unusual technique, but Charlie just took it up to another level. The late great Joe Pass was another guitar player known for incorporating bass lines in his playing.

Wow !! that was awesome. thanx.

So is that a bass or an electric guitar or both or is it an organ too??

it's both a bass and a guitar (the onlything that makes a bass differnt from a guitar is the scale length and girth of the strings. It sounds like a organ because he's playing it through a organ speaker.

No organ speaker noted but the sound must be made by the use of effects. Check out his gear page for more info.

It is noted on the clip that he is playing through a Leslie speaker.

Yeah, but then you have things like piccolo basses which are normally tuned one octave higher than a standard bass and baritone guitars which are often tuned one octave lower than a standard guitar!

I have one of his CD's and blew my mind at the time. That was probable in 2000 or so its still a nice relaxing CD to listen to its really jazzy.

looking at the sale length of his bass strings i don't believe those to be piccollo.

Its a bass and guitar hybrid. He's playing through a leslie. I was going to do something similar to this with my 6 string, but I sold it.
