Title: Questions on chord inversions

Ok can someone help me out, I kind of understand pop notation. I know what a Ebm is (Eb/BbEbGb), but what I don't understand when I see postings of this how will I know which inversion to use root,first or second).Also with the more complicated notations which inversion.

You c an't tell which inversion is being conveyed with 'pop notation' unless explicitly stated. It gives room for you to play around inversion and play what sounds best to you. One tip is first try the inversion which has the melody line note on top. I hope that helps!

Try using all of them and see which one works best for ya.  You may find that a root position chord works well at one point, then at another point the 1st inversion of the same chord works better than the root position, etc.  It's all up to you and what sound you want.  I personally use all inversions of the chord, so it really don't matter to me.  Wherever I feel led to go, that's where I go.
