It's time for school to name what you do naturally. Good luck and Peace

 well son ,take a semester in music theory...PLaying the way you do is obveiously ...a(gift)..however you're only going to get so far.......That gift must be developed..i know no better way than theory
,there are many other ways...however there is 'one way' that is with out challenge/fault,or with out question the "TOP DOG"..,and that is theory.you dare to takle theory...MANY.,will bow to thine feet.......um out like 1985....piece

I agree with other posters. Take a course in theory. However, you might find the course(s) really boring if you can already play your fingers off. When taking the course, make sure to stay humble. There may be some people in the class who will be able to school in theory yet be nowhere near your facility level on the keys. What you naturally have probably cannot be taught, but don't throw that in other folks' faces. After all, you can't take credit for the gift because it's God gift to you; he created it and can take it away. So, just lay back in the cut while in class. Soak up as much knowledge as you can. Give props to the great ones of the past. Then, come back and teach the rest of the world your contributions to music.

Apassion4jazz.com has a visual piano that will spell out the chords or name the chords if you give the fingering for you. Also, check out the chord book in the Lesson Center.

Thanks for the great site... but is there a site or something that you can enter the notes your playing and get the chord? I know a lot of people post progressions and stuff and put the notes...but I like to know what chord I am playing. Thanks in advance!

Why don't you post some chords that u play and then we can help you identify what they are.

it is an A minor 9 chord in second inversion, I believe. You have:
A-C-E (That's a minor triad)
A-C-E-G (That's a minor seventh chord)
A-C-E-G-B (That 'B' is the 'ninth' tone of the A minor scale...well, it's really the second tone of the scale, but that's another explanation)
I hope this helps....a little bit.

Thank you. It helps me to see the chord name and then associate the notes with that chord...thats how I like to play by looking at chord names then my fingers just go to the notes I have in my head for that chord.

Just to encourage you. I'm starting a theory class on Monday at our local community college. (PRAY SAINTS!!!!) I can play by ear some and do ok on sundays, so I hope this will help. I don't know too much advanced chords when they are posted but try them out sometimes when they are in a song thats posted that we happen to be working on. Keep practicing and praying, and consider taking that course. I have my book for class and was thinking Ill get an A on Every Good Boy Does Fine but will need some work on Good Boys Do Fine Always and All Cows Eat Grass!
