Hey yall, I'm a bass player perpatrating as if I can play guitar. ;D
Can someone please explain how to play "Not forgotten"? I believe that, at least for the verses, Israel just plays one chord all the way through (except after "God knows my name..."). When I play the E maj chord, it just doesn't sound good...am I strumming it wrong? Can someone please help? (For the chorus, I just go back and forth off the Emaj and Fmaj chords...)
And if the Lord so moves on your heart 8), can someone also post "Lord of the Harvest" by Fred? without getting into the intricacies of the instrument, I believe that there are probably 5-6 necessary chords throughout the whole song...help!
Thanks in advance homies and homiettes!!

Update: Forget "Lord of the Harvest"...i hadn't searched for it before posting....i found that song....still need "Not Forgotten" though!!

he's just chugging the root note, or maybe a power chord. we just did that song tonight at a woship concert at my church.
-
Not Forgotten is in E I think and most of the verse/chorus rides an E root with a melody using B, C and D notes.
There's also the stacatto B, B, B...E.
The part where they sing "I will praise You" goes from the E and does a chromatic walk down to Cmaj9 (E, D#, D, C# and then Cmaj9) then to Am7 and finally what sounds like a B7+5.
-
I guess having "professionals" tell you to do something that you already knew makes it sound so much better! ;D
"Miraculously" that same E chord sounds like the song now...
Thanks alot yall....although i'm not sure what a "power chord" is...
I'm just gonna keep "chugging" that E and when they do that B, I'm just gonna let the keyboardists hold it down...lol

We just did "Not Forgotten" by Israel & New Breed this past Sunday.
One thing I like about Israel.....he's predictable. ;D
I mean, that "E Based Power Chord" you sought is simply the first chord form used in "You Are Good"
O---------------
O---------------
x----- 7 --------
x----- 7 --------
x----- 5 --------
O---------------
You can hear it plainly when it's "tested" alone after the first 4 bars of the 8-Bar drum intro. You'll hear it as a slide up into this chord from a step below. PLAY THIS CHORD WITH A PALM MUTED QUALITY....or it can get out of hand during the vocals.
For the B, I simply play the octave at the 7th fret root for now:
x------ mute --------- open (optional) -----
x------ mute --------- open (optional) ------
x------ mute ---------- 9 ------------------
x----- 9 - 9 - 9 -------- 9 -----------------
x------ mute ----------- 7 ----------------
O----- 7 - 7 - 7 ------- open --------------
Then Israel slides this chord form up a half step and back for the following "Egyptian Part" (That's my keyboard players name for the wack part that follows).
The other electric guitarist can slide that sucker ALL around to cover & reinforce that "Egyptian melody" if you have no designated synth player on board.
Something like this:
O-------------I-------------------------I-----------------
O-------------I-------------------------I-----------------
x----- 9 ------I--- 10 -- 12 -- 10 -- 9 --I---- 7 ---- 9 ----
x----- 9 ------I--- 10 -- 12 -- 10 -- 9 --I---- 7 ---- 9 ----
x----- 7 ------I---- 8 -- 10 -- 8 -- 7 --I---- 5 ---- 7 ----
O-------------I-------------------------I-----------------
I apologize if my crummy chord graphics sorta suck and don't quite line up.
I hope you get my meaning.
It's an easy, quick guitar song that comes off great with a good rhythm section.
There are few songs I get to do as "guitar friendly" as this song...so enjoy it while you can!

appreciate the response, but this kind of chord layout is greek to most guitar players.....
