Do anyone out there know any good songs that can be played for Mother's Day? I need at least 2 or more.
Thanks and May God Bless!!!!

This makes me laugh, cause I thought about how all the older people every year put themselves thru agony, because one of them every year would sing, "If I could hear my mother pray again", and of course by the chorus, half of the church is sobbin, and howlin.
Honestly, that's the only "mother's day" song we used to do every year.

Right!! We do not do any songs of the sort on Mother's Day or Father's Day because those two days can be very hard for some so we sing upbeat, praise songs to avoid all the crying, running out the church howlin stuff.

Either that or "I Still Hear Momma Praying" :D

One I've done for years:
Love Them While We Can
They tied our shoes, took us to school, patched our worn-out jeans
They soothed our tears and calmed our fears, and listened to our dreams
Somewhere along their golden years, their hair has lost its sheen
The notes to hymn one hundred ten crackle when they sing
And now they are alone, no children's voices fill their empty homes
Chorus:
We must love them while we can, we must love them while we can
For time just seems to hurry by, and the days slip into years
And the moments that we have will disappear
So love them while we can
Verse:
The folks that taught us our first words, still have much to say
The silver secrets of the world, lie beneath those crowns of gray
As they approach the end, we change our role from children to best friend

Mother's Prayer by Juanita Wynn I wish I had a clip, it's like a solo, but a beautiful song.
-
Shirley Caesar has a song called: Everyday Feels Like Mother's Day.
It's not bad. someone mentioned I can still hear momma praying..that's always a nice one.
-
Speaking of Mrs. Ceasar, "No Charge" comes to mind, LOL! I always loved that song.

Yes
That's a good song.
I hear "If I could hear my Mother Pray Again" done bluegrass style sometimes.
Faith of our Mother's is a good one...slow, but good.

Does lee williams sing a song called "like a mother's love"?

"She's A Bad Mamma Jamma?" or "Mama Said Knock You Out!!!"
Get to know me dude or ma'am. When you give me the chance, I'll getcha!!!!!!!!
Of course I'm just kidding. At my church, they just play some interlude music, maybe do a poem or two, and pass out roses, so I really couldn't give you any songs. But the tearjerkers are not something I would personally do.

Sleep on Mother- Swanee Quintet
That'll make em boo-hoo. SLEEEEEEEEEEE, SLEEEEEEEEEEP ONNNNNNNNNN. Oh, wait, you DON'T want them to cry. Seems like death and going to heaven was a heavily recurring theme in gospel songs back then. Now, it's mostly about the Praise aspects.
Got off subject there (and still will, haha), but Chester D.T. Baldwin has a good rendition of "I Can Still Hear Mama Praying". He sang it at the Houston gospel explosion. The last time he was in Houston for the explosion, his mother was in the audience as he sang it. Now he was back and his mom had died since then, so he had a hard time singing it. But he tore it up.

Ok, I forgot about my boy Rev C. L. Franklin's song, "Mother Loves her children all the time", Man I wish I could find that CD, the live version is on the Chess gospel classics Cd, and when I tell you them Baptist women was screaming and howlin and you hear like pews collapsing... Man they got really wound up when he said, "Mothers always on her knees(Scream), cryin lord have mercy please(howl), mother loves her children all the time."
Whew!!!

COSIGN on the specials...especially Mother's day!
The lamest sermons are always on Mother's Day...an excuse for the preacher to not have to have a good message!
HOWEVER; if you're going to do "special music" you might as well have some lame Mama songs to go with the lame sermon.
At our church they sing "I Remember Mama" by Shirley Ceasar and another song that they call "Faded Rose"...I'm off the hook for that one this year because I don't know it and they couldn't find the words at choir practice, so we're not doing it. It may have another name, our choir director isn't real hung up on doing things the right way: whether it comes to the titles or singing on key, etc... (it's a challenge!)
Ususally the teen choir will sing a Mama song, too, but the kids weren't paying attention to the director and were only half singing, so the director finally got fed up and told them they weren't sining this Sunday. She kept telling them to put away their cell phones and sing...too bad it was her kids who were too busy texting during rehersal!!! ;D
-
This Sunday is the men's day to sing. I feel sorry for the mothers of the church. I sat in on rehearsal this past Wednesday. I guess the good news is they're not going to attempt any mother-specific songs.

I'll always love my mama. She brought me in this world!

LOL!
Our PRESCHOOL choir brought the house down with a Christian version of "Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This" ("Mama said I should love the Lord").
They all wore little fuzzy derby hats and did hand motions & a dance to go with it.
CUTE the the nth degree!!!!!
If you want to have some fun next year on Mother's Day, try that!
If I can ever remember to bring in a recorder I'll see if I can get them to do it again & tape it! ;D ;D ;D

Now stuff like THAT, I love... it just warms my heart! I love to see young children do anything in church. It's always so cute.
BTW, I was really fortunate yesterday. The pastor took all of 60 seconds to wish the mothers a blessed day, gave a 30 second blurb of a tribute to his own mother, who passed away in November, and went on to preach the word. And I had said in another thread that he often doesn't preach with a text, subject, etc.... he just kinda kicks straight into "hoopin and hollerin" mode. But yesterday, he actually started off with a text, and talked throughout the message, then worked his way into about a 3 minute hoop... just the way I like it. ;) :D :D
There were no special selections, no special tributes, no special message... nothing. Just plain ole regular church. ;D
It was still too darn long, though, but that's a whole 'notha thread. ::)

Nah, we'd better address it right here. Service yesterday was LONG!!!!!!!! Our pastor didn't preach and the other person preached a short sermon. I was like "YAY!!!!!!"
But then our pastor came on the scene and preached again. THEN we had a round of presentations to our pastor, the mothers and finally some other guy came out to preach a small sermon...
Man i was TIRED.

We did both yesterday. Ill Always Love MY Momma kinda crashed because the singer didnt know the pre-chorus, other than that it was fine.
