This has been racking my brain for the past couple year. I recented 'inherited' the music ministry at my church which is relatively small. We have one choir that consists of about 10 people ... BUT THEY'RE ALL WOMEN!! Since I've been a member at my church which has probably been about six years I've only seen two men actually sing in the choir. I can't figure why none of the men in my church will be a part of the choir.
Now don't get me wrong .. the women that are a part of the choir are BAAAD!! I wouldn't trade them for the world .. I just there was a balance.
Anyone had this problem??

It depends on the culture of the house... If your Pastor is a singing man, other men will sing. If he says that he can't sing and would never try then his weakness will become the weakness of the other men. I have that problem with my teen/preteen boys but not with the men in my church... Then again, I'm the main worship leader so they see a man leading worship every Sunday so that empowers the men at my church to use their voices...

yeah, we have that problem at my church, we're a small church 7 years old, my dad is the pastor and I play the organ/keyboard, our choir has all women, (almost all the women in the church lol) we had men before, my dad, that's it...................so i guess us men can't sing :o >:( ;D

Maybe there are some men that can sing, but they don't the desire. I'm like that, I can sing, but I have no desire whatsoever to get on the mic.

My pastor is definitely not a singing man .. he'll tell anyone that ... and while I can carry a tune and teach parts ... I wouldn't rely on me to lead a song or anything. I asked a friend the same question a couple days ago and he mentioned that in general men just sing less than women. So us being part of a small church .. the odds are that we're going to have more women that will be willing to sing then men. Guess we'll just have to grow some more.

Im sorry, but this right here is what frustrates me. I direct the youth/young adult choir at my church and we have a plenty of good young sangers at my church, but they refuse to sing in the choir. And truthfully we need the talent. God gave you and them a gift and y'all should use it for his glorification. Sometimes we gotta do what we don't "desire" to do for the advancement of his kingdom. I wish I could do more than hold a note, and y'all just sittin' on y'all's gift. That is not kool.

...very few manly men that I have seen will say...wow...let me go to choir and waste a whole lot of time just to watch folks come late...talk garbage and learn one song!...men need purpose...action.....ribs....sports.... .

Our church choir "FGRC Missionary Choir" has two men involved and thats the most men to be in the church choir. Although saying that we have formed a mens choir, using all the men in our Mens Department there are about 11 of us.

When I hear women sing, I get the impression it is sweet. Sometimes men who sing can be egoists looking to show off their voices. Of course you know you can get a lot of attention from women when you sing. It is a great come-on.
I sing enough to have voice-ear-hand-eye coordination. The more senses you have working in cooperation the better. The more people at your church who work together, the better for all of you.
I lead the choir with a couple of songs, and I have one song I sing with the male chorus, however I choose to concentrate on my instrumental sound rather than sing to worship God. My only motivation for singing is to worship and not to see how many women I can entice into my bedroom. I am a 56 year old divorced man who has no intention of ever getting married again. I don't have any problem attracting women.
I prefer to work to accompany and teach others to lead songs. I try to encourage people who are not playing an instrument to sing. That is my purpose in the church.
Oh one more thing. I found it hard to recruit boys to the school choir when I was the public school vocal music teacher for twenty years. I never had a shortage of girls who liked to sing. I even had a nephew in the school who was the valedictorian and gave the graduation speech, but he didn't want to sing. I have tried to encourage my son to sing and try to work for a music scholarship, but he won't.
I can't figure it out. It's gonna take somebody much smarter than me to figure it out.

Oh, you can teach me how to lead a song.
