Yo I know just about all of yall went through this but mine is constant, i need some advice on convincin' my dad(Pastor) that I need new cymbals fam. Right now I use a 14" B8 Thin Crash, a 16" "Zildjian" Planet Z crash, 20" Planet Z ride, and a 12" Wuhan China. I got a Mapex Pro M in the beginning of January for Christmas, but the cymbals do NOT match the sound of the set...............................at all.....................
And i'm serious about being a musician but they wont help a brotha out. It's the church's drums so the church should help me get new cymbals(do you agree?).
-
It's more blessed to give than to receive. I think as drummers we should own our own cymbals anyway. BUT I feel were you coming from, but I would recommend buying the cymbals you like playing on.

...and, then too, you don't know the real financial issue of the church (even if he's your dad). In some churches, money (for the most part) is not an issue. In many churches, money is an issue, but that all falls on the tithers and offering givers (or lack thereof, but that's a whole 'nother thread).
Enough of my rant - I agree with jtoomer. I would also recommend buying your own plates.

I gotta agree with the other brothers on this one. Most of the time, unless your Pastor is a musician, they won't understand the full ins and outs of being a musician and the equipment we use. So instead of trying to plead your case, be a blessing and purchase the cymbals you really want.
-
...and, even if they appreciate music, when it comes to the bottom line (read: $), it can be daunting for some. For some churches, they don't see the drums as something that they should spend a lot of money on (sadly enough).
-
yeah.................I feel you. And somethin' just came to remembrance when I was typing this reply ;D ;D ;D. Now I know i have nothin' to worry about, just be patient. But sometimes I feel a little down when I go to some churches and they have those breath taking cymbals, like I did Friday night.
-
Don't covet another man's (or wimmens - spelled that way on purpose) stuff. Like you said, be patient, and you'll get yours in due time.

Man where in the world did you get those Planet Z's from. I don't even think Walmart sells those. You mean to tell me that they bought you a drumset for Christmas, but it's not really yours it's the church's?

LOL @ Wal*Mart!

Yessir!!!! That's why, I just maintain the upkeep on our drums... not that our church wouldn't do it, but I just feel it's another way of giving back to the church, plus if I'm the main one playing it's only right. I kind of have it good, because my Pastor is a musician, so he understands.

Man, I feel your pain. Them Planet Z's ain't no joke. B8's would be like a Hand Hammered series compared to those Z's. I completely understand how you feel, so I'll tell you what...
I have a Sabian 17" vault crash that I was planning on selling it. I'm not too fond of the sound. It sort of sounds like an A Custom and I hate A Customs. If you can come up with the delivery charge, I'll send you it as a blessing. :)
-
That's what's up - blessed to be a blessing!
-
And if you want another blessing...I got a whole Zildjian setup that I would be willing to part with at a pretty small price...
-

When I got to Cali i started playing for this Church that was in need of a kit.. I spoke to the Pastor and He mentioned to the body that we would like to have a new drumset and an offering was taken.. Next week the Lord provided .. brand new kit with cymbals... The Lord knows exactly what we need and when to provide it.. just a word of encouragment..
-
FYI...I purchased the kit for my church and the cymbals. Both the old Zildjians as well as the new Meinls.
