Title: Cymbal Configuration Problem!!
Post by: yamahaboy on June 11, 2007, 11:05:14 AM
I have a A Custom projection crash (18") and It doesn't fit my playing situation.... Im looking for something that will compliment my 16" Fast Crash. :-\ :o The Projection is a great sounding cymbal but it just feels out of place in my set up!! Can anyone think of a cymbal that will compliment my Fast Crash without being as harsh as the Porjection Crash!???

PS, If anyone is looking into a trade I will gladly accept...lol... ;D :D

Honestly, you're going to have to go to the store and try out some plates.  You have Zildjians, so you're dealing with high levels of inconsistency.  Projections equal a full bodied and strong crash, while fast equals a quick and (somewhat) splashy crash.  It depends on your flavor that you're looking for.  In other words, if you're using the word compliment as in matchnig the sound (without sounding the same), you would have to get a cymbal that's close to the weight (and maybe size, if you're going in that general direction) of the crash that you are trying to pair it up with.

I (or we) could give you the name and series ot cymbals, but again, if you go to the store, it (probably) won't sound good to your ears - for me, most of the ones that I hear in stores are horrible sounding.  That's just the nature of the beast when you're dealing with Zildjians.

To sum it up, you're going to have to go to the store and try out some plates to see what you like.  Don't forget to bring the crash with you.

I have notice Inconsistancy in their cymbals!! I wasnt really looking for Zildjian solely, but I just want something that will somewhat compliment my Fast Crash. If It sounds good to my ears, then I will buy anything!!  Im looking for a something like a 17"...  Do you think a 17" Studio Crash will work? The problem is getting a cymbal that blends with my Fast Crash as well as the music. I may just have to shop around like you said... :-\

He is looking for a compliment, not a contrast, per his two posts within this thread.  Just go to sabian.com and you'll see what I mean.  Also, listen to the clips to get a general sound and see if your local store has it in stock.  Again, don't forget to bring your cymbal with you.

set aside 1 or 2 hrs maybe, take your 16 to your local drumshop and make comparisons, if they're good salesmen their you'll have no probs, just tell them what you're trying to accomplish. this is the best way

::)  An 18 Fast Crash!

Do they have enough body though? I know they have a rapid decay but It seems like a 18" would have more body and sustain.... If that is the case, you have solved my problem BBD...  8) ;)
