Title: I want to learn to play the french horn. How long would it take me...
Post by: ebichies on June 14, 2007, 03:13:05 AM
How long would it take me to be good enough to play with my church choir?  Must I get a tutor or are there books that can guide without a tutor?

Thanks

Depends on your motivation and your dedication, thats my opinion though. I tried playing french horn, and for me is was alittle easy for me, because I started out on trombone and trumpet. My dedication to the french horn wasnt there nor was my motivation so I never really mastered it the way I wanted to. But if you are intreged by it, go for it! Keep it up even if it gets frustrating! Good luck.

Also there are books out there! I dont know how well they will help but they are there. Try your local music store, or if not try some online music stores/websites. I usually shop at amazon.com or overstock.com. Sometimes there prices are cheaper than the prices in music stores. So far as an instructor (tutor), sometimes they do not work at the past you want to go, so be prepared for that. But since you seem like a beginner on the horn, it shouldnt be that much of any trouble for you. Again Good luck....and pray about it!
