Title: Black Panther snares vs Yamaha snares
Post by: JoTaLo on June 28, 2007, 03:39:52 AM
Hey Fam,

I'm wanting a new snare and i'm looking at a

5.5x14  2007 Mapex Black Panther maple snare
                        vs
5.5x14 Yamaha Sonny Emory signature beech snare.

Which one do you prefer?

Help me out please?

Sustained. Not even a choice worth contemplating. Those Black Panther snares are the truth. I have two!!

Sonny Emory...
The Beech has a unique sound... naturally balanced like a Maple Birch combo depending on the tuning and head combo. Definitely has more high end than maple.
Black Panthers are good... If you can get both because they are totally different drums

Thanks Sabe,

What about the 14x5.5 Yamaha Maple Custom snare's not the absolute. Is it any good for funk or RnB music??

It is good for anything in my opinion except hard rock or metal. It is too great a snare to get beat down like that, LOL.

That is a workhorse snare and is the same shell as my Dave Weckl Custom gold lug. Excellent tone for surprising high end bite. Really nice tuning range in my opinion.
