There was a discussion over on the Fender Duscussion Page (FDP) in the Stratocaster forum about what kind kind of Strat you would have the Custom Shop build for you. Well since we have a rather diverse pallete of tastes that extend beyond just Strats, I would like to start a similar duscussion here but to include any make and model of guitar you'd like. I'll share mine; it would be a rather non-traditonal Fender Strat with the following features:
*1-piece maple neck w/22 stainless steel jumbo frets
*12" neck radius
*reversed, large 70's style headstock and decal
*Fender/Schaller non-locking tuners - chrome
*unbound, abalone block inlayed neck
*contoured, 4-bolt neck heal (neck attaches to body with treaded screw inserts)
*solid alder body with a single, F-hole routed into the body (near where your forearm would rest)
*body finished in metalic purple with a 3-ply black/white/black pickguard
*recessed Floyd Rose double-locking tremolo - chrome
*Seymour Duncan JB humbucker in the bridge positon - zebra
*angled Custom Shop '69 Strat pickup in the neck positon - white cover
*controls consist of master volume and single master tone (Grease Bucket) - white knobs
*5-way Super Switch
- Position 1: Bridge pickup, coils in series
- Position 2: Rear coil of bridge w/neck pickup, coils in parallel
- Position 3: Bridge pickup, coils in series w/ parallel neck pickup, out of phase
- Position 4: Bridge pickup, coils in parallel
- Position 5: Neck pickup (single coil)
*standard Strat output jack/furrelle assembly - chrome
*Schaller strap-locks

Oh yeah; I forgot one thing. This will be a 7-string guitar!

Okay, if we're sticking with Fenders...
-Tele
-Swamp Ash
-"C" neck profile--maple with Rosewood board
-Flat black ("hot rod" black 8) )
-Whatever pickup is in my Wolf (close to a Gibson PAF, maybe a Pearly Gates) in the bridge, tapped
-Neck pickup (this has been in the back of my head for years) two standard Tele neck pickups, wired in parallel (for HB operation), but with a kill switch on one of them for the standard Tele neck tone (which is the sweetest neck pickup in the world)
-ah, throw a single coil in the mid position for those in-between Strat settings... why not? (and a 5-way switch).
-brushed aluminum pickguard, brushed hardware
-how about some numbers on the sides of your metal knobs, Fender? Huh? Why hasn't that been thought of?
-no tone control... or the TBX one, it is kinda' useful on a Tele (although I usually set it flat... lol)
-my name laser-engraved on the headstock (as if it were a production model - The Jay Patton PEEBSound Special)
-a strap made out of an old GM seatbelt/buckle will be included (not a reproduction, this will be salvaged from a scrapyard and altered as needed).
That's about it, I think.
As you can see, I've never put much thought into it.
If Fender won't give me a model of my own, then I'll take some decked-out PRS.
Or, in all honesty... my Wolfgang, or the guitar that Peavey replaced it with.
You shouldn't have got me started... lol ;D

You know what's weird? I don't have a dream guitar.
Now, a dream amp is another subject... ;D
-
:-\ Interesting
-
if i had to split 1000
I think I'd pay 700 for the amp and get a used mexi strat for 300.
but then again i could split it down the middle with a decent used guitar and amp.
-
$1000 wouldn't buy half of my dream amp...

Speaking of dream amps, I'd love to have a Supersonic Twin.
-

klein R n B pickups jumbo frets, tusq nut, brass block graphtech saddles
yeah I guess thats it ..now if i could just play as
well as my guitar will look. :-[

If we're sticking to Fender... a strat with this finish

Suhr ML (Mike Landau) pickups
Graphtec nut, Staggered Locking tuners, Super V bladerunner trem/bridge, SS jumbo frets (my clapton is currently on the shelf pending a $600 fret job that I don't have the money for), & a rosewood soft v neck that rings like a bell.

I'm aiming for a Matchless, Dr. Z or Bad Cat...small low-watt combo...average price around $2500+ new.

Who wants to charge you $600 for a fret job???
That's insanely high for an unbound maple (I assume) neck. Even stainless frets won't cost that much.

Have you ever played a guitar with SS frets? Yes, the do outlast nickel-silver frets, but it also appears that hey effect tone. Your guitar will sound brighter (might not be a bad thing, but I don't need any additional brightness) and may (YMMV) increase string breakage.

Bob Willcutt and the good folks at Willcutt guitars ( www.willcuttguitars.com (http://www.willcuttguitars.com) ). It's a local place around here with the only real guitar techs around for miles. Actually $575, but that's not really any better. Even Guitar Center here wants $475. I think they know they have the market cornered.
@funkStrat_97
Yes I have. I know what the word is, but it wasn't harsh to me. Either way I'd put up with it. Didn't mention this will be the second refret on it. $400 for the first one. :(

Man....my '93 American Standard may very well be due for a re-fret (at least partially). I see that you've been putting that EC Strat through its paces. Pretty soon, you'll have to retire it like he did with the original Blackie.

Hate to say it, but you might be right. It was my first strat. The one I fell asleep with and woke up playing. I guess I've had it for 12 yrs now. I think I'm going to replace the neck and hang the old one up or something.

Here you go Dave! Just about half price, too! ;)
