Title: LGM advice for new M.O.M.

I am the new Minister of Music for my church, I am looking for a lot of advice, like how can I tell a musician what I fell is missing or what's wrong when I don't know anything about their instrument? I'm new to this so I don't a lot of chords, I play the guitar now going on 3+ years, going forward what can you share with me?

you have to educate yourself.  That does not mean that you are learning to play the instrument, but you need to know the basic chords names and scale formations in terminology.  Also learn your musical terms such as, crescendo, ritard, etc.  Learn concepts of phrasings.  Then spend a lot of time with your musicians just listening to musicians who play their instruments whom you respect and enjoy, pointing out aspects of the music that you would like all of you to develop together.  Also, remember to include songs in your repertoire that will allow you to make some mistakes in front of them, so that they know that you are growing and stretching too.
