Title: Double Octave Basses

Hey I was looking through one of my American Musical Supply Magazines and I noticed a Schecter Stiletto Studio Bass that has a option of purchasing as 8-String (I believe it's a Double Ocatave-It's the one pictured in the magazine.) What do you guys think about this genre of bass? If you have any clips of Bass Masters playing, please feel free to  upload. I'm desiring to in the near future purchase something of this sort.

I've had three 8-strings over the years, including a Hagstrom from the 60s. They are usually tuned to octaves but are certainly not limited to that, tuning the octave strings to 5ths sounds very cool.
Since the early 90s I've sold off my 8s and bought two 12-string basses. Now THAT sounds huge!

I've never heard it being refered to as a "double octave bass", but I guess this is to differentiat an 8-string with double courses (pairs of strings tuned in octaves) form a bass with 8 individual strings.  The type of bass that you are refering to features 4 (or some times 5) pairs of strings tuned in octaves.  It essentially sounds like a guitar and bass being played together.  I honestly have not had much experience with an 8-string so I really can't give you much of an opinion.
