Title: Why do we request chords for songs?
Post by: Muziqmann on August 28, 2007, 12:25:21 PM
There are many reason I ask for the LGM family to post chords. It's usually because I don't own a recording of a song, but want to learn or teach it. Sometimes it's because I have to play a song @ a certain time and didn't it. Either because I was busy or I procrastinated, and failed to learn the song. I would like to pause right here and thank everyone who's ever posted chords. Either to help someone or just because you felt like it. In the beginning of this post I stated the reason I request songs. Why do you do it?

Seems like everytime you turn around someone wants to sing a new song or someone is recording a new song...if you haven't been playing very long, it could be very hard to keep up, which is why I ask 4 help. Now that I am learning more, I find that I request less than I used to. Especially since I have started chording songs out myself. I tell ya what, it is not as easy as folks may think it is. Matter of fact, it is down right difficult on certain songs. So I want to thank everyone who chords out songs T-block, Val, ddw4e, etc. Putting chords wit words is a very tedious journey!!When you do it a couple of times and see for ya self how hard it is, then you start to appreciate your fellow Lgm-er's even more. And you actually start to make an attempt to learn songs yourself b4 asking for help. Thats just my $2.50  ;)

I request them because I have difficulty in hearing the chords on some songs.  Especially contemporary chords.  Even after I have learned a song from a cd, sometimes there are certain chords or runs that I can't quite get. It is rare for me to ask for chords to be posted, but I have benefitted by looking at and using SO many that others requested.    I started trying to play the keyboard at about age 60, and have learned by ear and by taking cd courses that I ordered on the internet.  I have been playing about nine years.  I do play for a small church, and have been for about six years.  I also play for a group.  I have gained MUCH by visiting this site.   People are not so forthcoming when you ask them for info or assistance as a rule, but the folks on this site are VERY helpful.  I have said it before, and I'll say it again, T-Block, SJ, all the other posters, Ferrente and others.  Thanks. Your help was and is invaluable.

I request chords to a song because I cannot play very well by ear. For one, I cannot sing well at all. But, I love to play songs for my church. It all started when I started backing up my Pastor on the organ. I knew a couple of songs, but that was it. Then lo & behold I am now the musician until someone else comes along. So when I request chords, I really do need help. I also thank all of you who have been a blessing to my church . You have all helped the Spirit of God flow freely through our praise and worship. God will always send you help when all that you are doing is for the Glory of God.

Again thank you all

I requested chords for a song one time.  The reason I did it was because I was looking for the easy way out to learn da song.  I learned my lesson and haven't made a chord request since.
