Title: DECENT DRUM MICS
Post by: Hotsticks1 on September 20, 2007, 12:41:25 PM
Wadup people!!! Yo, I'm looking for some decent inexpensive drum mics. Me and my boys Timmy and Travis Reed do our own recording thing at the church but so far we've been using straight regular singing mics. Not that the sound is all that bad, but it could be a whole lot better and save us some more time as well...So if ya'll got any suggestions, please feel free to holla at a brotha

By the way if you wanna hear some of our material go to my Myspace page:

Add me as a friend while you're there...Peace

Yup - they got it about a few weeks ago, but I forgot to tell you.

The "Senny-senn-senns" are right on the toms.  If they wanted to up the ante, I would suggest the MD421 IIs.

I was at a studio recording the other night & these guys had a "ribbon" mic on the drums. Not sure of the brand/model or why they did it... it was sitting about 1metre away from the kick but :o MAN! the kick sounded beautiful!

Nothing wrong with the mics you have the wrong board and people contrling them.
Any pre-amps?

hmmmm.... fix the cause... the solution is fine fo the price. A good engineer would make it do what it do.

If you really want to make it happen get a coule ribbon mics... but again they will be just as limited if the knowledge and skillset and proper accessories equipent is not in place. Master the gadgts you have first before trying to upgrade. That way you won't create a expensive lesson for yourself.

The Senheissers are still better man.  The Mackie board is fine but will be upgraded.  The $35 - $40k Sound upgrade to the church has already begun.  I'm already looking at new mic's for the kit. ;)
