Title: WOW! ANOTHER CAR BITES THE DUST!
Post by: changedman on September 23, 2007, 03:59:29 PM
I am sure this post will probably put me right up there with those "people who always have drama going on and drain people by talking about it", but for those who truly care about me, I felt compelled to share...

This morning, I was on my way to church and the Avalon ran hot.  I waited a good 15 to 20 minutes and got out to put some antifreeze in it.  When I twisted the cap on the engine, scalding hot water spewed from it and the cap went somewhere up under the car.

A church member passed by and saw me and took me on to GPHMBC.

After church, one of my choir members (a mechanic) said "it's probably just a loose hose or something simple.  Let's go look at it.

He jumps in his truck.  Me and my mom jump in her car.

We all arrive at the scene of the accident and prepare to see what we can to do recover the cap (with a broom handle or something) and get it off the road enough for him to diagnose what was really wrong.

REMEMBER...I START A NEW JOB TUESDAY...KEEP THIS IN MIND

This white SUV....

comes flying in the lane alongside the emergency lane (where we were) and SLAMS into my choir member's truck...of course, totaling it!!!!

She also hits another car, which in turn goes UNDER my gold avalon and totals my baby.  Actually, TOTAL may not be the right word...judge for yourself...

You can probably see my drummer on the side (in the striped shirt) saying "Dude...that used to be your car".

Long story made short, the Avalon is a thing of the past.  So is my choir member's truck who was coming to help me so of course now I feel absolutely awful.

If you are one of those people who never has any problems or drama occur in your life, you should be thankful.  Many of us who don't WANT it seem to end up at its doorstep, often times without even trying.  We don't bother people...we go out of our way for others...invest MUCH into making life easier and more comfortable for others...and in return we come up on the losing end.

So if you're not having problems or drama, don't brag....just count your blessings and be thankful.

My sister's wedding is THIS Saturday and me (Coordinator of the Year) has 1,000 things to do with NO CAR!

I am glad to be alive, though!

Just pray, saints.  All this coming behind the high blood pressure, the insomnia, the decision to stay at GPHMBC or LEAVE, it's a lot on a guy, you know!?

And I would eat some fried chicken to "cope", but remember....lay off the fried foods!?  WOW!

Do you have car insurance? If so, is it the kind of insurance that will allow you to rent a car while making the necessary arrangements for getting a new car?

If not, do you have the funds to be able to rent a car or borrow a friend's vehicle (at least for this week).

Glad to know that you're alive and well. God WILL supply all your needs. Now, put that faith into action and make some phone calls, ASAP, or first thing tomorrow morning. ;)

Nah. I'm asking the saints (who don't view this as unnecessary drama) to pray for real. Where my mind is right now there is one total permanent solution to this that ensures that my "going through too much at one time" is permanently over.  On top of everything else this kinda did it for me. Real talk.

If that sounds like what I think it sounds like, don't even think it. Remember that the word tells us that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory which shall be revealed. Yes, it's cliche. Yes, I know you hear it alot, but you've got to remember that GOD WANT PUT MORE ON YOU THAN YOU CAN BEAR! He knows your heart...he knows yourself better than you do. While you're worrying about it, God's already making strides towards your deliverance. When you realize that and implant it in your heart, not only will you receive peace through THIS trial, but also in life generally.

And I ain't just telling you what I heard, brotha.

Not to mention that working at the church for chump change wasn't cutting it so I got hired on a REAL job with some REAL benefits. The job starts Tuesday. This is too much for one man at one time. But it's not too much for God. I know.

Hey Herm, I'm definitely praying for you, bro.  I know things are rough for you at the moment, but stay encouraged, brother.  The sufferings of this time will not compare to the glory that will be revealed in you.

Thanks.  I am holding on to my faith by a thread....just being honest. I am tired of these things happening to me when i'm always there for everyone and overextend myself to anyone who needs me. Just doesn't seem fair at all!

You are next in line for a miracle. The enemy has seen your desire to live right and be obedient and is trying to discourage you. Laugh in his face and ask God to take care of you. Trust Him and watch Him move on your behalf. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the spirit of the Lord will raise up a standard against him. Be encouraged.

I'm so sorry about the accident, and so grateful you weren't in the car.

Be encouraged.  Know that this is just a small part of the "all things" that will work together for your good.  There's a reason David (and Sheri Moffet) said that you have to encourage yourself.  Sometimes, and I don't care how holy or sanctified or Biblical you are, sometimes you just don't have it in you to be happy.  Sometimes life can really get the best of you, troubles can really weigh you down, sometimes life just really seems unfair.  Sometimes everything that could go wrong, does go wrong, and it all goes wrong at the same time.  Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you just can't get the "yet praise" out of your mouth.  That's when it pays to know the Word of God, to rehearse the Word, and to feed yourself with the scriptures.  That's when it pays to know Jesus, to really, really know Him in the fellowship of HIS sufferings so that we can put OUR sufferings (light affliction) into perspective.  In the grand scheme of things, even though it's not what you want to hear right now, this IS light.  This is a light affliction, and it's only going to last but for a moment, and it's working a far more exceeding glory in YOU.  This is what's making you, shaping you, molding you into the person God has destined you to be.  Speak over yourself.  Don't wallow in self-pity, don't allow the enemy to run rampant in your mind making you feel defeated.  Take the last ounce of strength you have, and tell him he's a liar, and declare the promises of God over your life.  If you don't have an ounce of strength, borrow mine.

Paul (and Donnie) said that after you've done all to stand, stand some more!

Keep standing.  Has He ever left you hanging?  Has He ever failed to come through for you?  Has He ever let you down?

What an appropriate and timely scripture.  I think I feel like saying it again: When the enemy comes in like a flood, the spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him!!!!!

Isn't that awesome to know?

Yo Herm, glad you're okay man.  We've been through this before and you were able to get another whip so there's no doubt that God will provide once again.  Rejoice right now for you know you will survive this storm.

NOW ON THE FLIPSIDE.....

1. Did you at least manage to save the peach fragrance air fresheners in your car? ;)

2. I guess this will make it somewhat difficult for you to scoop me up from the airport if I have another long layover in Memphis next week. >:(

1) The bottle of peach-scented "car stuff" was shattered to pieces.  That was actually the first time I cried.

2)  Don't talk about it.  I was looking forward to it for real!  You're the only one who can keep up with me when it comes to doing dinner!!

2001 - White Nissan Sentra.  Sitting at Ross and Winchester, it begins to POUR DOWN raining and the light goes out.  While the rest of us are obeying the "stop and go" routine, this guy decides to get out of the rain as fast as possible and hits me head on because he went out of turn.  I had just left my class reunion, and taking people home who were "too out of it to drive".  So, being the "good samaritan" cost me a car.

2005 - 2005 Gold Saturn.  On the way home from an usher day program (and an oil change between services), it decides to throw a rod on the expressway with an explosion of "car parts" everywhere!  Did I mention that I was sick with a sinus infection but Robert was on LOA and I only went to the evening service to play so the choir would have a musician?

2006 - 2005 Grey Ford Taurus.  Gets hit by a drunk driver Memorial Day weekend of last year who was driving the wrong way down a one way street at Third and Linden, on the way to help a church member cook who can't cook and was entertaining guests for the holiday.

2007 - SEPTEMBER 23rd (six days before the 3 year anniversary of the breakup from HELL), the Gold Avalon gets wrecked while PARKED in the emergency lane on the side of the expressway by a lady driving a WHITE SUV with NINE other passengers, three of which were children.  They all leave in ambulances.  My car is crushed like a can of sardines - containing decorations that I had made for my sister's wedding (WHICH IS ON THE THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE BREAKUP FROM HELL), AND MY SUIT FOR THE WEDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too much for one guy at one time.  But OK Lord.  OK!!!

We'll see.

DISCOURAGED is an understatement.  They just played LaShun Pace singing "Trust me in this place" on the radio and I was balling!

But they played it at the right time.

For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life.  But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead; who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver; in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us. 2 Corinthians 1:8-10

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.  2 Corinthians 4:8-10

For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.  For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:15-18

Herman I didn't want to write my words, because my words are not spirit, and life.  But as you stand here today what you need is God's word for you, and God's comfort for you.  My brother your situation is bigger than you are, and it is for a purpose that you don't see.  But God see's it all, and he already has a ram in the bush for your circumstance.  Not one of us can speak anything to make your pain less of effect, but we can love you, and allow God's love to wash you clean today.  Realize that we all stand outside of your trial, and agree with you this day that what satan meant to destroy you by, God is turning it around to bless you, and to cause this thing to draw many people to God's heart.

I trust the Lord Herman to take your mourning, and turn it into joy.  That you may walk in his strength, and be renewed into the eagle that soars above this, and the many other struggles you are walking in.  God bless you my brother, and know that I am in total agreement with you that not only will you get another car, but it will be double for your trouble better than the one you had. :)

Taking a note from experience, even if she was at fault doesn't mean they are going to pay anything.  One of the best things you can do is stay on your insurance people so they can put pressure on hers.

You just made me wanna sing my old church's anthem:

Late in the midnight hour
God's gonna turn it around
It's gonna work in your favor!!!!

Woooooooooo!!!!!!!!! I love singing that!

And I gotta cosign what you said, too.  When we totalled my MIL's little stupid brand-new Chevy that she was paying up the wazoo for, she was able to get a wonderful Cadillac (which was what she had wanted all along anyway).

Sorry to hear about your accident...glad to see you are well! I was in an accident on Friday and when I called the guy to double check the info from the police report...he bit my head off and said I made him miss him seeing his son before they took him away after he was stillborn....but I don't think he was telling the truth because he told the cop his wife just had a miscarriage and he told me right after the accident his wife was about to have a baby. But anyways...just really happy to see you got away in this one.
