I have no interest in braggin', or implying that I have a lot - 'cause I know it is VERY easy for a thread like this to be interpreted as such...
For example, someone craving attention may come on and say, "Hey, I'm looking to buy my dream-kit, and price is not an object!" From my experience, more than likely, when someone say's that , they're trying to appear as if they're big-ballin', and probably won't ever buy any of the kit's that have been suggested...
I am not trying to do that, okay? Okay.
Now that we've gotten that out of the way.....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of your guys seem to have an encyclopedic knowledge of gear, and that's why I'm here. I "quit" the drums almost a year ago(I continued to play, I just didn't own one to practice one) - but now I'm back. I got tired of the drum-monkey riding my back. If I wasn't beat-boxing, I was was beating on my computer disk with a pair of sticks I found in my closet. Soooo, that's proof enough that drums are likely going to be apart of my life...forever....
NOW!
I want that DREAM-kit! However, I will admit, I've always SUCKED when it came to shoppin' for gear. What would you guys suggest? As a matter of factly, and if you don't mind, post what you would consider your dream kit ...
Thanks In Advance,
Div

Tama bubinga birch hybrid 10 12 14 with all high-end dw hardware including the 9000 foot pedal and hi hat stand. I would also have all HHX Evolutions crashes. As for the hats and the ride, I'm still unsure as to what my dreams of those would be.
The REAL dream would be if I could add an 8 and 16 tom to the kit ;D ;D ;D But because it's limited edition I can't upgrade :'(

Well, my style of play nor my drum lingo is influenced by anyone from the south. I'm not much of a gear-head, so I don't know all the "proper terms". I'm trying to change that, so I can make better buying decision's in the future(I want to open a school)...
Also, 3499 ain't bad, at all.

I'm sorry lol But that seemed kind of random. What does your wanting to open a school have to do with anything ?/? just asking

nah man. Rims is a proper term too. LOL I'm just messing with ya. I'm just used to calling them hoops. It's the same thing. Check my whole dream kit out though. This kit is pretty close to $6,000 with no hardware. :o :o

I need to know what I'm asking for if I'm going to order the right gear for my school, right?

That's extra fancy...
That almost looks too good to play...
Is this the peak of drum perfection?

Yeah man...it's good to be knowledgeable about the gear you want to purchase. I'm inferring that this is a drum school you're trying to open?
-

Pretty close man. This kit and a couple of other DW's are meant to be kept at home with those nice fancy ropes that they use at banks in N.Y. around 'em. Kind of like a very expensive Grand Piano.
You'd be better off looking at something in their Lacquer Finish or Satin Finish lines. I know I would. :-\
-
Here's another one Div. I like this one a lot actually. This one would be around $4,500 with no hardware. You can find this one on ebay for about 2,000 used though.

If you want a dream kit...a custom dream kit, SONOR SQ2 is the way to go.
I personally wont be buying one. I am going to settle for a Sonor Delite kit. Another great choice.
When you get into a high end drum, the quality is going to be close. So pay attention to the small details. Ask j_kay why he love's Pearl's lugs so much. Finishes, lugs, hoops, mounting hardware even the badges are things to consider when buying a kit of this quality.
Bottom line is, you can't go wrong with a high end kit.
oh, by the way, here is a couple shots of an SQ2 kit:

Boooooooo >:(! You need to jump back on the Yamaha/Sonor/GMS wagon. lol
-
the dw stuff would be my dream kit answer
BUT then again
if you REALLY want your exact dream kit
GO ALL CUSTOM.... you can make exactly what you want
i can't make any suggestions as far as pricing BUT..... you really can't go wrong.... you could go crazy and make every drum differen colors with different lugs.... then again that would look like a gay flag.... :-\
lol.... but seriously... even if you wanted to use different woods for the rack toms floor toms bass drum and snare.... like oak snare and bass drum, birch rack and maple floor...
the point is from color to hardware to wood selection/variety custom MAY give you more choices... and a greater ability to get EXACTLY what you want to the T....

BooOOO BooOOO Tomatoes, Tomatoes ;D :D Funky Switches every month at least we know he doesnt discriminate! ;D ;) :D

Very true "J"...very true.
That Sonor still kicks a lot of kits butts. It's too bad that their distributor stinks. :-\
As far as the Bubinga Veneer DW....The finish is still incredible although I know it isn't a full Bubinga shell. The price tag sucks on it. >:(
-
I have been known to be partial to DW and Sonor. Sonor more than DW recently. I feel that Sonor, overall, makes a product that is very slept on by the masses. Sonor's quality control is off the chain. As is DW. The only thing that gave DW the edge is the fact that you could get their kits in just about any finish that you could imagine. With the advent of the SQ2 line, sonor is pretty much on the same level. If I had to pick just one, I'd go with the Sonor SQ2. The sizes would be: 7x10, 8x12 rack toms. 12x14, 14x16, 16x18 floor toms with legs. Floor toms with legs are WAY easier to position than those that are on stands. The bass drum would be 17x22. The shells on the kit would be all maple with candy orange finish over birdseye and brushed chrome lugs and rims. I'd play a 7x14 walnut snare painted jet black as my main (that I think I'm going to build pretty soon) and a 5 1/2x12 snare to my left. The rack toms would be set in standard order, and my floor toms would be positioned like Ronald Bruner's. I'd play Suede Emperors on the batter heads with Clear Ambasadors on the res. Power stroke 3's on the snare and bass drum for a funky jazzy tone.
My mind is racing just thinking about this kit.

I think you need to give a price range you want to spend in. The Sonars are nice but that an $11000 kit

I see that you've thought out everything for that SQ2!
-
I cannot believe the prices of some drum kits. Hmmmm, my mortgage or a DW.....my mortgage or a Sonor? :-\ ?/?
-
Hey, DW and Sonor has to eat, too... *lol* I just priced a snare, and wow... ;D
I think that I'll stick with the snare drum that I wanted to get originally, anyway. Maybe sometime in the near future the SQ2 snare will be on my radar.
-

Eat where? 5 Star Restaurants everyday for the entire Drum Corp. Board???? Goodness. :-\
Either way, I think your church should get a DW "J" and I think "Div" would be happy with one as well. I know I would.....I'd be straight Cheezin'. LOL :D
Oh yeah Div......The Sonor 3005 kit is a great kit man.....Sound & Quality and it won't break the bank. Seriously....that's one of the most slept on kits out here at there respective level. I would also look into Mapex Saturn Series with the Black Panther snare of your choice. Those aren't Dream kits for some of us but hey.....a slight "vision" wouldn't hurt. LOL
-
(High end) DW and (high end) Sonor are like Latrell Spreewell: "I've got my family to feed" ;D
-
...yup....definetly choking the life out of the everyday drummer. :-\
I wonder if I get a discount by cutting down my own tree at their forest site? LOL
-
Nope, you'll just get a certificate, stating that you hand selected the tree... ;D
-
:D You guys are laughs!
I'd like to get the SQ2's , but that might intail selling some of my vital organs... although some of the stuff on the DW line isn't any cheaper. I'd be slap happy to have a DW tho.
The Sonor Delites are hard too. Steve Smith played them forever (or atleast until the SQ2's came out). I'd be happy with the Delites if I could get them in the sizes I wanted.
-
Nope, you'll just get a certificate, stating that you hand selected the tree... ;D
LMBO. Very true "J", very true. Oh well, I was willing to help with the process for the discount. :-\ LOL
These joka's would probably put me in their ad as their companies new way of hand selecting a DW. :-\ ;D *I'd have a dumb picture of me with a dog gon' ax and a Red Flannel shirt with the DW logo on it and overalls. LOL*
-
I'm looking for something Navy/Blue, Teal, and Silver(Think Seattle Mariners)...
As for range...
*takes a deep breath*
I just sold my motorcyle, and I got 25, 000 to put into a k...... :D
Fellas, I'm not really caring about the price-tag. I'm interested in supreme quality, and that's all. Sabe dropped a bomb with that Odery ... and that Sonor looks like 36-24-42, you know ... my locker combination from high school....
When I get it, I promise to take pics like the kit is a A-list celebrity on the red carpet...
-
...well then....Sonor and Odery is the way to go.
....you must've been a Harley Davidson owner, huh?

Depends on how many toms you get. Standard 3 tom configuration will run about $5,000-$6,000. Not $11,000.
Freddy, Check SQ2...its the custom that you are talking about.
SQ2 even lets you dictate what kind of finish you get on the INSIDE of the shell.

I dont think that the new Masters series is of the same quality as they used to be. The masters series is not the flagship of the brand anymore. The reference has taken the spot of the Masters. They still sound good, but i think that they have watered down the mixture as of late... :-\
