in my opinion, markbass is way too expensive for just a practice amp at home.
my SWR LA12 gave me a good boomy sound. its only 65 watts but at home, i doubt you'll need more than that. i bought mine used at GC for like $150.
also i liked the sound i got out of the GK combo amps.

You're right, it is very expensive, but the thing I liked about this is that it is expandable, and at 500w that's a plenty. But I would go cheaper. I have a peavey 8 inch. LOL!!!!

You might try a Yorkville Bassmaster 100 combo or a fender Bassman 100 combo. Both have excellent lowend rumble.

Now this all depends on your budget and how much you are willing to invest. 8)

The Ibanez above is super. I own the smaller 35watt 10inch speaker. A guy I work with has the Ibanez above. It thumps, the low end is great.

for home i'll go with a fender 30watt rumble, or something like that, they sound good when turned at lower volumes.

+1 on the Fender Rumble series. I scored a Crate 50-watt off Ebay for $80 shipped, and it has great sound. The Fender Bassman 100 is a great amp but a little pricey for a practice amp, IMHO.
Also, check the classifieds on talkbass.com

THANKS YALL I GOT TO CHECK SOME OF THESE AMPS OUT

.....I scored a Crate 50-watt off Ebay for $80 shipped, and it has great sound. ....
My wife got my a Crate 50 about 10 years ago. It still serves me well as a practice amp. I like that it has 2 inputs. Gives me the ability to plug my iPod or my Tascam CDBT in when I'm learning new stuff.
I also have a Pandora that I can play through headphones.
One other thing I'd suggest to you. A Dragonfly Stethescope Headset. Seriously. I got one from Talkbass for contributing as a Gold Supporting Member. It is REALLY cool. It is basically a stethescope attached to two little receivers that you attach by suction cup to the back of your instrument. The sound you get through it is very true. Since it operates without any power or batteries, you are not able to adjust volume or tone, but it is a very cool way to practice.
Here's a link to a video on the Dragonfly........ http://www.truenorthmusicproductions.com/Index.html (http://www.truenorthmusicproductions.com/Index.html)

Just my opinion..... here it is..... The peavey is most likely to last long but the crate is more likely to sound better.
