Title: Understand Tabs....
Post by: 4hisglory on October 12, 2007, 10:22:25 AM
I'm not a Bassist but I tried to put together some simple tabs to the first part of Amazing Grace.  Is this how it is suppose to be done???

|------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|-------|
|------|-------|-2-2-2-|-3-3-3-|-------|-------|-------|-5-5-5-|-5-5-5-|
|------|-3-3-3-|-------|-------|-3-3-3-|-------|-5-5-5-|-------|-------|

thats basically it in a nutshell. just remember that the each number is a note played and the horizontal lines signify a bar (measure). the hardest things to do in TAB are indicate length of notes and timing. sometimes spacing helps.

the numbers represent the frets, horizontal lines represent each string, and the vertical lines (i said it incorrectly in my last post) are the bar lines

G|-----------5--|
D|--------5-----|
A|-----5--------|
E|--5-----------|

the vertical lines should end the bar (measure) so if the song was in 4/4 time, that would be 4 beats. so every space between the vertical bars would be over 4 beats
