I wanted to share love to those who are eager to learn and develop their gifts on organ and other instruments. To my brothers and sisters that play organ on LGM, let us share our experiences and help them to become vessels of God through the interpretation of music. Some have expressed that they were afraid to ask certain questions fearing embarrassment and I want to publicly come out and encourage you to ASK ANYTHING! There are no stupid questions here. We are ALL here to network and learn from our experiences. I remember what it was like when I wanted to learn and I still am...shoot, I got Key Wiz and others I can ask for advice now ;D so let's bless others with the gifts we have!

I agree with that!
The main thing to do is pray for strength and PATIENCE!!!! There going to be times that you not going to get things right away but don't get mad and quit but work on something else and come back to it. And practice, practice, practice, practice, and practice some more!! If you get chords from songs, try to use them in other songs...most of the time they fit with other songs. But take time to learn things, it's not going to come to you on YOUR time but GOD's time!
My advice to the newcomers...

Take from one who had all the great musicians around him, Butch Heyward, Timonthy Wright, Twinkie Clark, Willard Meeks, Carlton Pope...etc. I didn't have the opporunity to sit down with any of them but I developed my ear for music just to hear what they were doing. Yes, it took time but, when I learned it I stored it away and made room for all the musicians I heard on the albums ( no CD's then). Now I can learn any song from any musician. Since 1989 I've been willing to assist other musicians so that the won't go through what I did. The organ is a beautiful instrument and when you learn to make it sing....wow......watch what happens in your service.
what waws my practice routine ( since I had a B3 in my house)
1. foot pedal work - this is most hardet thing you will ever learn on the organ. Practice playing left hand bass and your feet at the same time. Learn the heel/toe method and build up your speed. If you're in the key of C practice the Um - Pah rouitine
C- G - C - G, F - C - F - G, C - G - C - G, G - D - G - Gb - F- C - G
C - E - F - Gb - G - F - E - D - C

Man! I want to be like yall when I grow up. Thanks for the encouragment because I feel that sometimes younger musicians are afraid to ask for help because of the bashing that they may have to face. I appreciate the thread that key-wiz posted also because everyone is not going to learn at the same pace. I may get something quickly but it may take someone else longer. We get our blessing through being patient and compassionate to other up and comers. If a newbie comes in and asks a question that has been asked 100 times just answer it again. Sometimes I think that we forget where we came from and that is the worst mistake that we can ever make.

Thanks Trina! I will definitely ask all the organists on this website questions about how to play the organ because I will be taking organ lessons soon.

yeah I feel that. I remember the hunger for this like yesterday. . . and I'm still not full. We are ALWAYS going to run into folks that want to do the same thing we're doing. So you're right, Key Wiz. I also say, " stop bashing other musicians" cuz when you teach like I do, we gotta have another type of patience, like someone did for us.
