Post by: organplaya04 on November 03, 2007, 07:50:59 PM
OK for you organ techs out there....I notice sometimes my organ at church gives this ringing sound...and when I push the high   Eb key it stops...this doesn't happen all the time..just here and there...but I was wondering if anybody knew what I could do to stop that, before we call the organ specialist out cause this guy OVER charges for SMALL things....but yea if you can help a brutha out..I would appreciate it

Sound like the contact for that key is dirty. It will be expensive cause the tech has to remove the upper por lower manuals from the organ to clean the contact wires under the keys.  My father is a 45 year Hammond B3 tech.

Yes Sam, I agree with you! as I read this, that his problem will most surely be that contact between the key which also means that if he is going to get that fixed, he would might as well get all the contacts, felts cleaned and refurbished during that one go!  This would be you best bet Doc!!  God bless, Bishop Cole

That it might cost alot to get fixed. How is your drawbar setting when it starts ringing?

Umm well it doesn't really matter...sometimes it'll just start ringing out the blue ,,then I'll hit the Eb key and it'll stop

yeah at first i was thinking of your draw bar settings. Other than that, i really don't know what will cause it. My church also has a Hammond B3

Just a suggestion - Before you give $100s to a tech you may want to run to your local Radio Shack and pick up a $5.00 can of Velocity compressed air that is designed to remove dirt and dust from computer keyboards and other electronic devices and spray the heck out of that key as well as up and in between the neighboring D and E keys as well.  If it's just dirt that may help dislodge what ever is causing the problem.  It certainly can't hurt, I don't think.  But I'm not a tech!!!
