He was sho'nuff killin.  I like the way he placed his 16th note fills over the traditional feel.  Kinda put me in the mind of Bishop Chris Coleman.

This is another cat that he put me in the mind of.....

He was definitely beasting.

Yes sir, Eddie is definitely a cannon... He plays with so much power and is a very tasteful drummer.. If you never heard him live make sure that you either make a trip to NYC or when he is playing for another gospel artist make sure you make that trip to see him play.. you will not be disappointed...Stay Blessed, Nate J.

...that was rediculous.   >:(  What is it with everyone and trying to be a beast on everything they play?  This video is just a bad example on how to conduct yourself musically on a gig.  That was so out-of-line to play like that.  We have to grow up fam.  Licks and chops are not effective when they are out-of-place or irrelevant to whats going on musically.  I am not impressed with speed and technique alone.  Placement and awareness are priceless attributes.

to the last 2 post above this i respect your opinion but He is a Pro Drummer and also if you know Animal thats just the way he plays. you wouldnt get a Cat for a guard dog, means when you hire someone or ask someone to do anything and you know their character then dont expect anything less or more. had it been calvin and he played the same fills how many cats would be trying to implement on sunday.

Not me....just beacuse they are "pro" dosen't mean I'm going to like everything I hear them play. I only take what I like in their playing. That was too much for that song. Period. GB.

I met Eddie a when he came to BEANTOWN a coupl times with James Hall & WP he was always humble, and he has definately has grown as a drummer. Great clip to a song  (Changed )if i can remember and quote me if i am wrong originally sung by the Legendary Tramaine Hawkins  8)

He gets excited?!  He's a grown man!  Why are you all making excuses for his annoying outbursts on the drum set?  I dont care who he is.  Its still wrong.  This just shows me where (those of you who are protecting him) musical maturity level is.  Stop listening to just the drummer!  It wasnt a shed.  It wasnt a jam session.  It was a church service and a choir was singing.  That song does not call for that animalistic behavior and if I wrote that song, I would be very offended.  And just so you know, Calvin would have never played that song like that.  I would have never played that song like that.  That was very immature.  You all should download more of Mendoza's song files...learn something on LGM for once...this is pitiful.

Please do not applaud the fact that he is one dimensional.  Good for one thing.  Limited.  Has no control.  Is who he is.  Cant expect anything less or more?  Who wants a musician like that?  That is a shame.  That is nothing to be proud of.  Further more, there's more than one reason why certain people get gigs.  Availability could have been a factor.  Last minute call.  Couldnt get the person they really wanted...

you view music your way and let others view it theirs.

those who called him for the gig have no complaints and even posted it on youtube so seems to me your wasting your time and breath by insulting his style of playing.

believe it or not there are some who find fault with the way calvin plays. so while he probaly would not have played this song this way guess what he's not even in this clip and neither are you, true story.....

God forbid someone actually play what they feel.

That was a bit too much.  He totally left the rest of the band and choir on that one.  The stops in the music were totally disregarded.  I think the camera made him do all of that.  But as long as some people are impressed by it, he will be encouraged to keep it up.

When did immaturity become a style of playing?

I mentioned Calvin's name because someone else did in reference to this clip.  I mentioned my name because I can.

And please, play what you feel...in a shed or maybe in your basement.

True.  Its just frustrating when youre trying to lead cats down the right path and then someone in the light pulls a stunt like this...now everyone thinks its ok because "Gerald's little brother" is doing it.

This reminds me of the forum topic or discussions surrounding people not respecting drummers who dont have a great deal of chops. Notice the majority of the people who saw this clip were jumpin thru the roof.......If Eddie had played this song without the same amount of licks...and actually played what the song called for...who would really be sayin he was killin'? playin them skinnz? or something like that???? :-\

Maybe I missed something....  Yes, he is playing a lot of notes, but if you're really listening, he plays the song from start to finish.  He is not "running away" from the band, he is interacting with the band.  I don't hear "immaturity", but a great deal of musical maturity.

He doesn't start "blazing" until the 3:54 mark, which is more than halfway thru the clip.  Not only does he match the band dynamically, HE shapes in musical phrases.  In watching the clip several times, I honestly don't see what makes him an "immature drummer."  I am watching this clip LOOKING for things to call him out on...  The only thing I can see is that he looks like Donkey Kong while he's playing.  Thats all.

I just do not see it guys...  Sorry. :-\

I don't think it was the camera, either. I noticed his eyes were glued on whoever was directing the music (a sign of band awareness).

It was 9/8. . . and I shed in 9/8, 6/8, 5/4, 5/8. . . What's the point in only shedding in 4/4. Let's get out of the box.

I have to agree with Juse. He only went "wild" when the rest of the band built up the music. Did anyone else notice that he wasn't the only one playing in some of those breaks? But even though he was "blazin" at the build up, his dynamics went right back down when the choir went back to the chorus to end the song. Then at the first ending, he did what a drummer would have done at the end of a song while the other band members held the "this is the end of the song let's see what we're going to do next" chords.

If anything, he did too much at least at the places where he was supposed to do more. I didn't see it as him running away.

P.S. Sheen if you argue with me, I will HUNT YOU DOWN AND GUT YOU LIKE A FISH!!!!!!

Peace be unto you, Dudes.  ;D

Someone didn't pay attention to the quotation marks around the word.  If one will completely disregard everything that was said in that post to key in on ONE word...  Thats pretty chippy if you ask me....

Since you've requested it, I can fulfill this request:

First "measure" in 3/8, the rest are in 4/4: (ratatatatat bobobobobom bishhhh!!!!!!), Second measure (the third goes over the bar), fourth measure (the fifth goes over the bar, too), fifth measure and the sixth measure: (skapa/papa/papa/papa/pa/doca/doodle/doodle /doodle/dishhhhhhhh!)
Counted: 1e 2&3/1234/1/1&2&3&4&/1/1e2e3e4e/1

Legend
bishhhh and dishhhhhhhh are crashes (16" and 18", respectively)
ratatatatat is the snare, so is skapa and papa (14" for a full bodied ratatat sound -when you hit that skapa and papa, those are the accents)
bobobobobom are the floor toms (16" and 18" for the full effect)
doca is the 10" tom
doodle is the 12" tom

Yes, that's the count if you sound it out and write it.  It's a masterpiece, Kev - go ahead and send this to the Library of Congress.  It's near Regan International in D.C.  I'll go with you.

I bet! Report later... Man, Neo-Bush is too funny. The one when he was striving trying to say "territorial." When he finished Joe Ball(ing) that word he thought it was two words.

Ay, Sheen, I always leave inspired when you play. This is some of the best beat-boxing I've ever read! You are just an all-around great body-percussionist. ;D

Thanks, man. Now I can take this to the shed with me. I've got work to do. These are some pretty complicated rhythms.

Sorry. :-\

I second that Bruh! He is a very mature drummer, and he is interacting with the organist. The Bass player was doing his thing as well  8)[/b][/color]

I enjoyed the clip, but I couldnt tell wht the song was until the soloist started to sing... the drumming was fine, but the keys didnt sound like the CD at all, atleast not in the beginning... I used to go to Love Center, have heard this song sang by Tramaine in person... I just dont think musically, it did justice. :-\
